I changed my C43 steering drag link yesterday after examining it on the lift and finding that one joint had excessive play.
MB Norwich had one in stock @ £ 168 plus VAT (I get 10% off), so was £ 177.66 all in.
Fairly straightforward to change - track rod end, idler and steering box connections are an 18mm spanner with a 5mm hex to prevent the spherical joint from turning. Outer TRE's easily seperated using a conventional ball joint splitter.
Steering damper is a 16mm bolt.
Inner joints (idler & steering box) were more stubborn, and access for a conventional splitter is restrictive, but we happened to have a very compact Lancia splitter and this worked a treat. This had a screw which acted directly onto the ball joint leg rather than the normal sort which acts on a lever.
Front tracking will be adjusted to 0°25' (+- 10' tolerence) today.
Part number for my car was A202 460 05 05
Took me about two hours from start to finish, and that was including trying to heat one of the ball joints before resorting to the alternative ball joint splitter. Had this not been so stubborn it would have knocked 20 minutes off. Was doing this on a 4 post ramp.
The symptoms were a wondering around the straight ahead position which required frequent steering corrections. Made driving in a straight line far more demanding than it ought to be. It doesn't take much wear to make a big difference.
