Just been to see a C43 in Mill Hill and I couldn't find the trip computer. Did they not come as standard or am I a complete idiot and not pressing the right buttons?

I must say they dont 'arf shift!

The most you can get out of it is trip mileage counter. If you want to add a trip computer you can swap the instrument cluster for one from a facelift 208 CLK, you'll also need a 208 CLK steering wheel and some wiring.

This is a mod I started collecting parts for years ago!

'Fraid you're an idiod!

The trip reset is over on the left of the binnacle - the button with a "0". The trip display also displays the LIM (limit) speed and distance to next service, so if it was displaying either of those you wouldn't have seen the trip change. The trip display is the little display above the odometer.

Hang on, I'll tak a photo of mine.

1. is the trip counter
2. is the odometer
3. is the trip reset

Just thought - are you looking for the computer? In which case no, there isn't one, just a trip counter

I was looking for the computer. I wanted to know the mpg.

So I guess that if it can't tell me what the mpg actually is then I'll just have to make it up!!!!

The seats were bl00dy slippery. every time we braked i found myslef curled up in the the footwell.

Does every second hand dealer feel the need to polish a mercs cabin to an extreamly high shine or do they get like that over age.

Its the dealer and their damn dash shine :(

Mine wasn't shiny at all when I got rid of it....

No you don't! Assume it is (realistically) about 22 to 24. If that makes you feel ill then just assume it's about 30.

The seats are adjustable in most directions so you should be able to set them up so's you stay in them - they also have air-filled bolsters to squeeze and poke you. If these are not responding it is probably because the air tubes have come adrift which is pretty common. Well, it was pretty common on mine before I started securing them with cable ties.

Besides, when you're driving you have the steering wheel to hang on to!

Do the boys in F1 know this? Save them tinkering around with the engine when they should be paying more attention to the seat belt.

Maybe Jensen will use it as an excuse for his next DNF :D

this alone is enough to make me not want to buy the car

I'm not worried about me, I'm worried about the other half moaning that the seats are to slippery

You could always do a swap with someone who has a cloth interior.

I have a mate with an Audi RS2 that can display instantaneous fuel consumption. It's dropped down to 2 mpg under hard acceleration..

I've not had my C43 long, but seem to be averaging 22 with mixed town/motorway driving.. let's just say economy is not considered to be a strong point.

Cheers,

Gaz

My BMW gets 21mpg and thats only a 3lt V8. 22mpg upwards is great.

where do these Mercs rust. There are some bubbles around the boot lock but where else?

Have you tried fitting velcro to your backside?:bannana:

Not a well know cure for rust but I suppose worth a try.

I've got some rust hinting through the bottom of the tailgate - not sure is saloons have similar issues around the bottom of the boot lid.

Believe me you dont need to know the fuel economy consumption. Just enjoy the sound of that V8 :D

One thing I do need to know is how much the replacement for the discs and pads all round is. One friend said £4000!!!!!!!

Can you use BMW 750i discs instead....read it in an MB mag

That sounds better. So where does the myth come from? I'm sure I've read about high costs for the work.

The car is £8995 on a 2000V with 74k. Price sounds good but the leather needs rebuffing, the steering wheel needs retriming and the boot needs a respray.
