Does anyone else on the forum have this setup? I am getting rubbing at the top of the arch(and have been for a while) when I am turning and going over a bump.

Does anyone else have this problem or am I am I all alone. It only happens on the fronts. The wheels are 8" wide and I am on #4 spring pads with 225/40/18s Pilot Sports.

I was thinking of getting a set of Styling 3's as they are 7.5" wide with a different offset (ET37 I think rather than the ET31 of the Styling 2's) so if my thoughts are correct they will sit further 'in' the arch. Thing is I don't want to spend the money unless it is 100% necessary.

Any pearls of wisdom?

**EDIT** Or if anyone has a set of 18" Styling 3s I could try out for an hour or so that I can check it would be much appreciated :D

Mambo,

Are the wheels catching on the outside edge of the wheel ?

Possibly look under arch with torch with some load in the car.

With the 7.5 inch wide wheels and ET37 this will bring in the wheel 12mm ( half an inch ) in compared to your current 8 x 18 ET31 setup, so should be enough to clear the rubbing.

Just be careful of the calipers when trying the new wheels on - in some cases the calipers can catch on the inside of the wheel - but I am sure AMGs will be fine.

Hope this helps

I know its a 180 but I get no rubbing at all ever on the front but do on the rear if I have a full car.

The outside edge of the tyre is basically rubbing at the top of the arch when the wheel is turned, I have had the arches pulled out a little but I still get the rubbing when the wheel is turned. Things are fine in a straight line.

I may have to get out the trusty credit card but want to make sure that the problems gonna be fixed before I part with my cheddar!

I get no rubbing at the back but only a little at the front when going up bumps, is your car lowered?

Nope just standard sport setup.

I think its due to my having the car lowered. The thing is I know a lot of the guys in the states have the same set up and they are reporting no problems

are they rubbing on the plastic inner arch liner? Mine did this when I had 18" styling IIs on mine. Usually at full lock manouvers or taking a turn sharply. Used to do it on dips on motorways too and speed bumps were 5mph affairs.

I've only standard C36 springs on mine, not lowered AFAIK.

One of the reasons why I went back to 17" as it annoyed the crap out of me.

Took my arch liners off before I got the car, only happens on bumps when the wheels are turned, motorways etc seem fine. Thing that gets me is that lot of people are running this setup and they are not getting any problems!

are the Pilotsports the extra load ones that has rim protect? I find they are slightly wider than the 225/40s from othe brands because of this.

Not sure, Pilot Sport IIs, not much of a rim protect that I can make out. Anyone know of a "thinner" tyre? Suppose that would be cheaper than a new set of wheels ;)

lol, the side walls supposedly bulge out a bit more to protect the lips of the wheel. I had the same tires on my 18". I think Pirellis and Dunlops are 'thinner'.

Are you sure mean you removed the arch liners before you got the car? Arch extensions yes.

Some tyres have squarer shoulders than others, too. Look at the TUV document for the springs and see what the notices are when used with 18x8 ET31.

 I meant extensions, not liners, they are still firmly in place :D

Can anyone else confirm this (not that I don't trust you Mick ;))

Mambo, I found mine hit the bumper brake vent, when I get some time I will screw it down a little more, it wont touch then!

Mine definately hits the arch, been doing some reseach and it seems the C43 has a slightly wider track than the C36. I am thinking that changing the fronts to 7.5's may do the trick but dont want to spend the money.....

I would agree that rim protection tyres would have to be wider to protect the outer rim, but they would have to narrow back to the prescribed tread width.
Tyre fitters know their tyres quite well, so it's worth asking someone from the protyre group about this kinda thing..

http://www.hr-spezialfedern.de/bin/29377.pdf p3 is where the Hinweise und auflagen are (~conditions for fitment)
As for AMG III 18", they would be £895. I think some are arriving next week with some AMG IV 18".
I would investigate where the rubbing is first. German tuners do this by jacking up the car and lowering diagonal wheels onto blocks then turning the wheels.
When you cure that, we'll sell you some AMG III 19" with 235/35R19!
As for 18" tyre prices, we aren't competitive, but aim for these, ex VAT:

255/35R18 MICH PIL SPORT 90Y £165.00
255/35R18 MICH PIL SPT XL 94Y £165.00
255/35R18 MICH PIL SPT2 XL 94Y £168.00
255/35R18 MICH PS2 ZP 90Y RFT £150.00

225/40R18 MICH PIL SPORT * 88Y £115.00
225/40R18 MICH PIL SPORT 88Y £115.00
225/40R18 MICH PIL SPORT CUP £175.70
225/40R18 MICH PIL SPORT N1 £115.00
225/40R18 MICH PIL SPT2 92Y XL £115.00
