C43 on Autotrader

Just goes to show however good they look in the pictures its a different story in person.

I saw this too, had a long test drive too - has a fair bit of rust, and the lack of service history is a worry, especially as it has been maintained by a friend of the owner who isn't a Professional mechanic.

Car drove ok, but no idea what proper servicing had been done. - owner was nice enough chap, but got the impression that any work had been done on the cheap.

Interior was quite marked, steering wheel gone all yellow, and a strange rattle I couldn't identify.

Has anyone made him an offer?
I offered £3500. He said he'd rather keep it!!

No, he said he would take 4.5

You can get a lot better for a lot less

.

IMO this isn't such a big issue on a old-ish car as long as there are dated receipts for genuine parts used etc.
I would rather have a OCD Mercedes enthusiast with engineering skills working on my car with oem parts than some Mercedes "professionals" rushing to complete their quota of work for the day. But then I've had some horror stories hence my view maybe biased.;)
Quick Fit Exhausts are professionals, would you..........

Good luck with the C43 search! :thumb:

I agree, but it wasnt a Mercedes nut, it was a friend who looked after all of the owners cars (he had several) and wasn't a profesionally trained mechanic, just a mate who is handy with the spanners.

No receipts, no invoices, no stamps in the book for a few years.

Yes but if you're proficient and know your stuff should this be a major problem? It is an old car after all, and after a certain amount of time from personal experience, its not feasible to pay the costs for servicing, when you can do it yourself with parts from ECP.

Hmm - its one thing if it's done by someone who knows the cars, which I think is essential with a C43, but a worry for me if not.

If you saw the car, you would see what I mean - the best C43 I saw was looked after by one of our own Forum members who isn't a full time merc mechanic, but you could tell it had been very well looked after and worked on with a lot of care.

That is expensive. A classic case of the owner having rose tinted spectacles..
