The situation is e.g.: going up the ramp of a multi storey car park, at moderate speed and there will be a "scraping sound" from the left front tyre or when just turning right from a stand still.

It sounds as if could be a steering pump low on fluid (but why would there then only be a noise on right turns?) or as if the inner fender is catching (but there are only very minimal scuff marks, which I assume are from full lock).

Anyone experienced something similar?

I have ythe same problems on my C280 estate after i fitted my new wheels. The noise was the tyre rubber on the front bit of the plastic cover of the inside of the arch. The way to check is give the steering full lock and see if its tounching anywhere. Mine was worse when i was getting out of my drive there was a slope down.

noise

Mine also does it on full right lock only on the left side, the outside of the tyre is rubbing on the plastic inner arch near where the brake cooling duct is, there was a finned bit that it was rubbing on originally so i filed that down and now its only slightly catching, mines a C36 with E55 18s on, dont know what wheels you have on yours??
If the noise is like a scrapping/sucking noise try putting it on full right turn hard against the lock when stationary and if it does it then the power steering fluid level could be low or the pump damaged

It is on standard 17" staggered AMG wheels, so that should be fine.

I also suspect the inner plastic arch, but it is just surprising I can't find any scuff marks.

Thanks for the replies.
