c43 tyre sizes

hi, ive been to see a c43 amg that i fancy buying, its had a new set of tyres fitted very recently at £130 per tyre and look great, but im pretty sure they were all the same size ,are the back ones supposed to be bigger than the fronts and if so is this a problem? anyone? thanks Leigh

Mine had the standard 17" wheels on, from memory they were 225/40 on the front and 245/40 on the back. The tyres were Conti SC2's, W rated and I believe the Merc rim has a special fitting? I remember the tyre place asking me if they were for a Mercedes.

Should be 225/45/17 on the front and 245/40/17 on the rear.

There are some sets of AMG wheels around with the same width rims (7.5J) front and rear - available as an option on some new cars, but these would not be the standard rims for a C43 - they should all have 8.5J rears from the factory.

You can put 225/45x17 on the back too, but it's a bit of a stretch and leaves the lip very vulnerable to kerbing.

thanks you guys , ive asked the seller to check the rim and tyre sizes, if as i suspect the tyres are the same front and rear will they still be legal and how could it affect the handling etc ? thanks again Leigh

Well, aside from hinting at a bit of a wally of an owner (fitting the wrong size tyres...), it would look a bit silly (narrow, stretched tyre at the back), and I guess the handling could be a little tail happy in some conditions.

I'd change them on an AMG model myself. In fact, I'd be looking for good reasons to buy that particular car in the first place, to be honest!

cheers Will, it maybe me whos a bit of a wally,because i cant remember the actual sizes, and didnt know enough at the time of viewing to question him properly,other than the issue with the tyres its a totally original car with full merc history and in great condition, ill wait until the guy gets back to me with the details t moro and may be i can post them up for some advice cheers
