A member of the Mercedes-Benz Club has a C43.He has replaced his centre silencer with a "Soundtube", he bought it from a company in Germany called MKB Power. The Soundtube does what the name suggests makes a wonderful noise, nothing illegal i have been told, just a very pleasant rumble sound in built up area's.

Has anyone ever heard of a "Soundtube" in this country, can you suggest a exhaust specialist who might make them.I have had a quote of £245.00 from Germany delivered,i don't know if that is good or bad as i don't know what is involved.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Peter.

No offence intended but the C43 sounds beautiful as it is - adding a soundtube or something similar would make it sound like a barry's car/boy racer.

I personally think the AMG 43's and 55's are quite sutble in sound and it will be a great mod.

Grav888 had a silencer cut out of his E55 and it's louder, but not that loud. Any exhause specialist can replace a silencer for pipe, but this sounds like it has some design to it, go for it!

If you want to hear Barry, listen to my C230K with a CLK430 AMG backbox! :D

sound tube

no offence but the sound tube sounds absolutely ridicules  , a low grumble in built up areas  ..its annoying for residents as you can feel it as well as hear it  ...other people in the avenue know your movements even if you gently on the accelerator. I find that when i'am out side I watch the person go passed with a god that sounds crap look on my face and bloody stupid to boot  because we have one of the annoying little twerps living near me so its going to be a big king Edward up the exhaust soon  .... it also gives it a kind of go faster sound which a C43  will not need.I feel it will kind of belittle the car and drag it down to street mod car boy racer stature ...you will get looks but for the wrong reason :D

Peter.

You have to be very careful, as the exhaust is a balanced system and any changes will affect the back-pressure on the engine and may damage it.

I am not saying that this system hasn't been designed properly, but with your balanced, and finely tuned C43AMG you need to be very careful mate. :(

Many thanks for your comments.

Sounds like the MARMITE advert, you either like it or ...........the idea.I must admit it would be a great advantage if i could hear what it sounds like,he lives to far away.
If it did sound like a boy racer i would give it a miss,he did say it was very subtle i am big into subtle.I have enquired from Hayward & Scott exhaust specialist, they have not come back to me.Once again thanks for the input.

Then surely the C43 sound is subtle enough already  , those who care will know what the car is already from the noise, those that don't, won't.....

Just my 2p

Howard,

Very subtle,i take your point.

I used to see a Corsa with a poxy engine but sports exhaust with, get this, twin 3" outlets, one each side.
It sounded like a hairdryer, and I bet it cost a few quid as well.

It shouldn't do any damage as the Lamda sensor will make the engien fuel up more.
You are correct that a carburettor fed car could run lean if not rejetted accordingly.
In reality the least backpressure is best for engine power and efficiency.
