C55 is a great car like the e55 i have they so powerful at 60mph+ just leave the esp on in the wet.

Just look out for these common probs,

Alarm sirens, Front seat control units, Rain/light sensors,Rear sams and it will need a battery every 4-6 years

They are wicked cars - now they are very affordable.

They are juicy if you put your foot down and in and around town driving ,put them on the motorway and you'll get good mpg.

lol:)

9 points later in my experience with AMGs

I let my mother in law borrow my E55 to go up to leeds - my missus who was in the car with her said its the first time she has ever been 120mph. The mother in law could not beleive how easy it is to get there and not relise it. Its just so smooth

They come into their own 70+

So many times i have been cruising along next thing you look at the clocks and your doing 100 +
I use the limiter all the time now.

8 all day long

have you heard them at mid range - no comp.:)

Yeah, I had one, and I've driven 2 other 8 cylinder cars, can't say I actually thought much of the engine. Prefered the tunefulness, tone and power delivery of the I6 engined car that I had :D

yeah - see where you coming from

horses for courses :)

350 (or so) horsepower from a 3.2 litre supercharged v6 engine isn't much of a stress at all. Also, the V6 can sound quite close (bit of higher note) to a V8. And if my knowledge serves me right, the internals of any supercharged engine have to be further enforced to cope with the superchargers strain, (hope i'm not jinxing but) mercedes usually make very very reliable engines too...

I would also prefer the E55 (supercharged version) to the E63, although the E63 is meant to be quicker, but its just that torquey kick u get when u floor it in a forced induction engined car that i'm addicted to...

The C32 has 332 ft/lbs , and the 55 has 376 ft/lbs , so the 55 is the torquier engine.

55 is reckoned to be between 4.5 and 4.9 seconds to 60 , whereas the 32 is around 5.4 ...

Why would you get more of a kick from a S/C 3.2 as opposed to a 5.5 V8 ?

Lower down Torque and maybe the the s/c'd 6 is lighter than the n/a V8.

Well , we'd need to see torque curves , and i haven't got any.

V8 all the way for me as well , although i am biased as i drive a C55 occasionally ;)

Actually howard your wrong. The C32 gets 4.2 sec 0-60 and i've seen it, timed it, and i've put it on youtube myself (and there are other c32's that are completely standard) on ebay doing very close to 4.5 secs.

OK , i'm wrong.

I can only quote what MB say for their cars , i'm sorry.

Well , extrapolating that figure , and applying it to the C55 , which has more torque and more power , you would assume it to be faster then , no ?

If the C32 you filmed did the run in substantially under book time , it would be reasonable to assume that the 55 would too ?

What were you measuring it with ?

How do you know the Ebay ones are doing 4.5 seconds ? ( because the seller says so ? )

Not doubting you , but you have to work with the figures , the same shape car with a more powerful engine , will be faster you would think ?

Not getting into a p***ing contest with you mate , you asked , i have driven a C55 on numerous occasions , and as i said have had the honour to have a little tussle with a C32 , i didn't film it , nor did i set my casio to time it , i was too busy enjoying myself.

All the road tests for the C32 indicate a 0-60 time of about 5 seconds , if your friends one has done it in 4.2 then it must be modified in some way. What did you measure it with ? Could you post a link to the vid please ?

Found this on C32 Life ( US site ) ...

This is the fastest stock Mercedes ever produced: the C32 AMG sedan loaded with two adults and luggage takes only 5.2 seconds to reach 62 mph according to Mercedes. The car is capable of runs to 60 in 4.5 seconds! (AutoCar review Jun 27th 2001) That's faster than the new BMW M3 and the Porsche 911.

So Autocar Magazine ( with specialist timing equipment , and very good drivers ) could only get it to 4.5 seconds ( as you can see MB claim 5.2 ) , so yes it it substantially faster than MB claim , but .3 secs is a big amount when you are talking these times. You say your mates one is standard ?

I disagree with you here. The 320 engine was designed to produce about 220BHP. Now, i'm not saying AMG dont know what they are doing because clearly they do. Over 100BHP per litre is still relatively uncommon in the motor car world. Note I say relatively.

There is no way the V6 will sound like a V8. Sorry on that point you are wrong.

If the C32 was so good, why did they change to the C55? Lets not also forget that the C32 was the pre-facelifted W203 with all the niggles and gremlins associated with a car based on much older technology (W208).

For me it would have to be the C55, V8 four tail pipes and that sound.

having owned a c32 for 3 years and a c55 for 6 months, the c55 is better in every single way!!! it is about the same speed howeverit sounds a million times better.

cant wait till september for my c63 to arrive:D

Yeah :) i dont mean to sound aggressive but its just mercs are seriously underrated. My car book time says 7.5s 0-60 when i've got my brother to film me doing 6.1. And i can re-assure you that my friend's car is absolutely bone-stock, he's had it for just over a year now.... and he's changed nothing on it.. i really like his car (just dont like the fact its a W203... i prefer the looks of the W202 and W204..) But there you go. and oh, i didnt mean ebay, i meant youtube . sorry bout misleading you there.

Its just when u hear "5.4 litre V8" you expect to hear a big horsepower associated with that figure, but its like 360-380 (not 100% sure here) and i find that slightly disappointing. But then again one thing i find re-assuring about mercedes is that they make these big engines so they dont strain their cars with too much horsepower, thus giving you an overall more reliable car.

End of the day its a matter of preference and i prefer the c32... (of course the c63 > all ).

Ah , but what happens when you bolt a supercharger onto the 5.4L V8 ?

Then you end up with 520 ish bhp , as in the CL55 and SL55

has everyone gone mad? V8 all the way... no dispute...

The C32 was always troublesome at best..

I am looking at C63 at the mo, also saw a CLK 63 BS at a local Bentley dealers in Exeter, it has 2K on the clock and was priced at £92K, nice but i am not keen on 2 door they are huge although the BS looks far sportier, i think i prefer the C Class. I have had a drive in the C63 estate version and the result was 'WOW'. Awaiting to see pics and your response when your beauty arrives.

Regards.
