Can anyone help me out or tell me theirs does the same!

Now and again. more so if I am stationary, if I wiggle the steering wheel I can feel a lumpy feel in it and it makes a small lock at the same time. Now I dont think it is suspension related as I never get it goin over bumps. To me it feels like its in the steering column itself.

I have linked a youtube video so you can see and hear it.

Also you will notice when I take the key out and engage the steering lock, note howw much I can move the wheel between the lock points, is this normal. As I thought there should be no movement so it stop would be thiefs from making a jerk action and breaking the lock. Again could be wrong.

Any feedback would be much appreciated!

Not sure what it is but it doesn't sound healthy at all.

The play when the steering lock is on looks fine. The MB steering locks are very very very strong.

With the other noise, can you hear it while driving? Remember that when there is no power assistance the column and steering ger can sound a bit different.

You can feel it if you jiggle the wheel with the engine running, it almost feels if something is loose some where. I had the same sort of feeling on my Corsa and all it was was where the column goes onto the UJ joint in the foot well needed tightening up. Could it be the same sort of thing??

I also reckon I feel it on the odd occasion when driving - obviously cant hear it then.

It could be the UJ at the bottom of the column. Take the cover above the pedals off and have a look.

Just took the trim off and nothing to see really. But it looks a bit more complicated than the corsa's way of working!

The knock certainly feels like a weight or something knocking about in the column when the wheel is wiggled. Can somebody else give their steering wheel a shake and see if it's just the norm?
