C55 to CLS55 "cross"grade ..

Most important aspect when buying is that if you have any sort of doubt then don't buy. Take the time to sort out or confirm your doubts then make a decision. Also remember that there is always likely to be something that in your eyes needs doing, whether it be mechanical or cosmetic. Remember to factor this on top of the price you buy the car for. It's common to have a £14k budget all of which goes on the car, then you spend another £2k-£3k making it "right", all of a sudden you have a £17k car........

Keep us updated on how you get on, the car so sounds good so far.

With a car like this don't rush into things because the right one will come along eventually. Me, I researched the hell out of the CLS55 AMG and went and bought the first one I test drove, without fully researching the car I was actually buying.

Not long into my ownership and things started going wrong. Brake pump and parking sensors which to be fair the dealer/Merc fixed.

I did get the car with a full MOT, new tires at the rear (cheap ones), valeted, wheels refurbed (not to a high standard) and a full service which included new pads at the front.

For a year and a bit I had no problems whatsoever with the car, it has only been recently as I've not been driving it much.

Good luck anyway.

Gave my wife a go of mine earlier, she loved it, first time she has driven it. She said she can see why I went for it. When she floored it, she nearly sh!t herself. She's actually a good driver so knowing she can drive it is a bonus as I've never been driven around in mine properly.

Those options wouldn't be a deal breaker for me. The cooled seats are a bit of a gimmick.

Ensure all electrics work as they should. Door switches for the mirrors/windows, the seats heat up, parking sensors operate as they should.
Does Comand work properly. try the radio/mapping to see.
Disc and pad condition? Around £250+ for the fronts.
MOT advisories?.have they been attended to.
Tyre condition? Around£450 - £600 for a set of 4.

Airmatic...start the car and raise and lower the car a few times on the button.Check Sport 1,2 and Comfort all work. From the highest setting it should drop a little on the other two settings. Does it sit level all round?

Give it a few hard pulls flat out. Does it keep pulling or drop off? If it feels flat the IC pump may be weak and need replacing. Look at the pulleys and check if they are all running true on the shafts

The SBC pump is not the eye watering cost it used to be . Max £900 if you source the pump yourself from Germany and use an indy. Have a look at the codes in the attachment and see if you can match the year of manufacture of the pump in the car. Newer than the reg year?......its been changed.

Those look like the turbine wheels off an SL55. Not a fan myself but can be changed and sold on.

Yes it can be done. Using the MB digital tuner its not cheap and it can be done with aftermarket tuner and the know how. A good car audio shop should be able to help.

Edit..........Forgot the attachment for the SBC pump codes

Gonna print this off right now, this is amazing. Sticky worthy for sure

Where do I get the SBC code from on the car?

Will need this for next year :)

Viewing at 8:15 tonight

All advice so far has been superb lads - greatly appreciated

Mine a few weeks back after a proper clean. The Transformer badge... well I love Transformers, I collected them and the comics as a kid and my 4 year old loves them too.

His teacher at school had one on her car and he wouldn't shut up about how her Corsa was a Transformer and my AMG Merc was, well nothing special. So I got the badge, stuck it on and picked him up from school one day. Now my car is the special one!

I drew the line at him wanting it yellow like Bumblebee though...

Haha. My 4yr old grandson is mad on Transformers. Cant see me putting Optimus Prime on the E55 anytime soon though.

Go on man... get it done!

Some people have tutted at it, but many others think its a cool mod...

That disabled bay as well, that's my mate's nana's car, he works at VW valeting and he had valeted it and parked it there prior to me collecting it. I'm not that inconsiderate ha ha!

A mate rang me a while ago and said "I'm going to look at an E55 AMG Kompressor, anything I should look for and are they quick?". Regarding his last point, I told him to get it on a straight, empty bit of road and give it a bootfull. You'll soon find out! He rang me back to say I missed one small but very important point. I should have told him to ensure the seat is adjusted correctly. Apparently he was pushed so far back into the seat his hands came off the steering wheel!!
Yes, of course he bought it! :thumb:

The first time I nailed mine, I had a pair of sunglasses parked on top of my head.............they landed on the rear parcel shelf:D

If its the first 55k engined car you have driven, don't be too swayed by the performance. They are all damn quick.

Buy on condition, although its hard to turn one down when its just frightened you to death:D

I still doubt its that much faster than a N/A 55, below 100mph at any rate. Id imagine after 100mph the extra power and torque will have more effect. The C weighs over 200kg less than the E and id imagine the CLS is heavier than the E.

They are a lovely car, the shape is fantastic.

The supercharger delivers masses of torque lower down the rev range. N/A engines need to rev much higher to achieve the same. Take e the 63 vs the 55k for example..

OK
I love the car but a few niggles I~m sitting on

1) oil leak left bank of engine (seems to be definite valve cover gasket leak) but owner has agreed to get checked out tomorrow morning by local specialist
2) the buttons on the seat at the base (non dynamic seats) do nothing both sides - what is this likely to be ? What do they actually do ?
3) took a photo of SBC pump label but I think from AMGeed's post I need the actual engraved code on unit

Sounds very positive and pleased it went well.

Oil leak if it is just the covers is an easy fix. The seats could be an electrical fault if both are not working, or they could both be individually faulty.

Have you discussed price yet? Just factor the cost of fixing these items into what you'd offer or get him to fix them and pay what you think is right.

Jules

what do those seat buttons do Jules ? are they multi contour seats (i.e.) inflate via a pump?
nervous about the oil leak but 90% certain its just valve cover gasket to get checked out
some movement on price but car is clean and in goo health other wise - she seems a goodun

colour is gorgeous and the grey interior is really nice

Yes the multi contour seat buttons are shown in the photo. They do indeed inflate sections of the seat to change the contour. The change is slight, so you have to hold the switches in a position for some time before you may notice any changes. Generally you'll feel discomfort, that's how you know they're working!
