Hi All,

I am looking to have my bonnet converted to a 507 bonnet, I have contacted a few places including two of my local MB Dealers who seem a bit confused for some odd reason about carrying this work out.

Both say they are unable to do this?

I have also contacted Projex who have quite a long lead time and are very far from me so this may not work.

Newcastle Mercedes main dealer again are also very far. Are there any dealers south of the country not too far from London that anyone has experience with or a contact that would undertake this work?

Options are as follows, complete replacement of the said bonnet or modification of the original?

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated, Estimated costings if someone has had this done from a main dealer would also be helpful.

Main dealers aren't going to be cutting up a bonnet.
They will sell and fit you a 507 bonnet at an extortionate price however.

I understand this, I have asked the question at two of my local main dealers, They say they are unable to supply me the bonnet and paint/fit it. I am looking for a dealer that will be willing to do this similar to Newcastle Mercedes who is located nearer to London.

Thanks, Again I have already searched the forum and read all the previous work carried out by Projex, I have also contacted them and obtained a quote for a modification to be carried out to the bonnet.

They again are very far from me and as they are essentially modifying the bonnet I am looking into opting to purchase a genuine bonnet outright from a dealer and get it painted/fitted.

Lead time on getting this work done from Projex is also quite a while, Leaving the vehicle so far from home again is another issue as there turnaround time is 5 working days.

Just go to the parts department with a parts list and then get it painted and fitted at a body shop of your choice

Parts list below but some of these such as the gas struts and bonnet release can be carried over from your original bonnet

£2800 for a bonnet

V nice mod but too pricey for me. Shame as I've got the 507 wheels already..

On a side note, how much would I be looking at for a genuine carbon fibre rear lip spoiler for a Saloon?

Genuine Carbon spoiler from MB is around £1200 ask me how I know mine was stolen

Thanks for sharing, This is useful. A quick skim of the parts needed im guessing are as follows:

204-682-12-26 ** 507 Insulation Engine Hood
204-880-13-57 ** 507 Hood
204-750-01-44-9040 ** 507 Air Inlet Grill L

000-990-54-92-9051 ** 507 Expansion Rivet Fastening Bracket Right 6mm (qty 4)

Remaining parts from the existing bonnet could be utilised. Some of the other parts are things like DRL surrounds and front grill I believe.

Probably about right, if you do get a price for all those parts I'd be interested to know what you were quoted as it's a change I've been looking at making myself which is why I have the parts list, just haven't got round to getting prices from the dealer

Hey look its Cooper... dont lie you know nothing ;) haha!

I had the projex conversion its ok but up close it wont stand up to close scrutiny but all in all ok....

Just to update you all.

I have opted to purchase the bonnet direct from MB Newcastle, It seems a very expensive option but considerably cheaper than buying all the individual parts from my local retailer. Arranging a bodyshop to then paint which I am not confident on many bodyshops I would prefer somewhere easier to deal with than an independent body shop.

I asked my local main dealer Mercedes Brentford and as usual they were no help at all on this front.

I have requested Newcastle to deliver the bonnet to me painted/prepared. The bonnet will be fitted locally. Will post pictures when received.

I recommend you have the bonnet sprayed with the car so you achieve the correct match to the front wings and front of the car.
You may have to have them blown over to blend into the new bonnet.

painting a bonnet off the car is not a good idea as it will need to be taken over onto the wings

The price included the paint and assembly plus delivery. Hopefully when the bonnet arrives I'm hoping for a good match my car still has very good factory paint so I'm not hugely concerned about colour change over time.

However, If the bonnet does arrive and we go to fit it and the colour differs ever so slightly i will look to have the bonnet redone and blown over into the wings. Its difficult enough sourcing the bonnet from the local dealers and with newcastle the price didn't move much without taking there painted option on the bonnet.

Atleast this way when it arrives its a easier job to have the bonnet switched over and car driven out the same day locally. I can then spend my time and look for a trusted body shop to carry out the paint to get the colour right.

I still have my existing bonnet also and the reason for opting not to go to newcastle was the courier costs of bringing it back, hotel stay etc.
