C63 507 edition
Hi all,

Having recently purchased a C63 507 edition coupe, I was unlucky/stupid enough to sustain a scratch on the drivers side door over the dark grey decal stripe which runs along the side of the vehicle.

After contacting MB the best price they will offer a replacement decal kit for is £600. This is obviously very expensive for what is essentially a sticker. I am aware aftermarket ones are available for a fraction of this price but I am not sure if 1) the colour/matt texture of aftermarket ones is identical to OEM or if they are just very similar 2) the quality is the same - ie fade resistant and unlikely to peel after a few years.

Any advice fellow members can offer would be greatly appreciated and may just end up saving me quite a bit of money.

Any good wrapping company will be able to match it for you for far cheaper! Just contact your local guys, if you were in London I could recommend someone.

Demon plates might be able to help. They’ve made me custom decals in the past actually and I think they’re close to you.

Even if they fade and fall off, which I don't expect they would any more or less than OEM, then you can afford to replace them many times over before you're even close to £600.

I have some ebay ones I've yet to fit but they look perfectly decent and I've held them up to the car which seems to show the right length. For example OEM don't actually go to the edges and neither does mine.

Thanks for the replies

I may order some off eBay to see what the colour match is like and if it’s not spot on ring round a few wrapping companies.

Are yours black or Matt Graphite Grey. I’ve seen a lot of cars with black decals even though the original brochure/specification doesn’t list any choice in decal colour, only Matt Graphite Grey. There’s only one part number listed on EPC too.

As others have said, getting the decals made shouldn’t be too difficult. I know of one member who used Reforma Automotive in Leeds. Finding the matching colour vinyl may be more tricky.

Please let me know how you get on as I want to replace the rear bumper sections of mine. I did order some off eBay but they were the wrong colour and shape so sent them back.

They are the matt graphite ones, according to the body shops I have been to so far (and as you mentioned) matching the colour and reflective pigments of the OEM perfectly may be difficult.

I’ll see how good a match the aftermarket ones are/how confident the wrapping companies are to getting a 100% match. I do like the graphite effect so failing this I would have to buy OEM - in which case I would be selling all the other parts of the decal set apart from the drivers side door. Hopefully it does not come to that though I and will let you know how I get on.

I'm just asked for a price from my local dealer. £612.36 after my 10% Owners Club discount

This is the only other option I've seen for genuine decals

Let me know if you find someone who can match the colour and make them and I'll share the cost with you as I only want the rear bumper sections.

You could try putting the part numbers into google and may find someone who has some knocking around at discounted price?

Definetely I would go for OEM. It probably is expensive but you get what you pay for. The cheap stuff just doesn’t work.
Depends really how particular you are.. some people just don’t care and will be happy just to mask the problem

I think I may have noticed that on the white 507’s. maybe it’s something on the chassis for them to be ordered ? Not sure

I’ll have another look on EPC but I’m pretty sure there was only one part number listed.

Maybe the OP will reappear at some point and let us know what he finds.

There’s no reason why a good specialist shouldn’t be able to make decals as good as OEM as long as they can find the correct film to use.

I can’t believe Mercedes would have had a special vinyl manufactured for this. It has to be something from Avery, 3M, Hexis etc.

That’s the trouble. Finding someone good enough to carry out the work.
A bit like the tint I’ve had done, searched and searched and trusted in good reviews left etc.. and I’m left with a shoddy tint job which has only just cost time and money.
Plenty wrapping company’s out there. But finding someone who is top of there game isn’t easy unless off course someone can suggest someone. Many companies will promise the earth just to get your hard earned cash. But it’s the end result what matters

Interestingly I was in MB World on Saturday and they had a brand new shape E63 wagon on display with what looked like 507 stripes down the side of it. Felt a little miffed to be honest

Linz have you had a chat with Acid and his team at MSL ? They get an awful lot of good press on here and may know of someone in your area they trust to do a good job.

I honestly can’t believe you are contemplating £600 for those. MB doesn’t have these made out of aircraft grade material, they literally are vinyl, and the best is undoubtably 3M which is still incredibly reasonably priced. I’d even be surprised if they have any part number printed on them if originality is what you’re worried about.

Like others have said, a reputable vehicle wrapper could make these for you in exact colour match. Then again if you like having your pants felt...

I'd imagine the vinyl is more than likely Avery or 3M, see if you can go to a local sign shop and compare the swatch colour against the existing stripe. I'm in Essex and have the swatches if you are local.....

Unfortunately the tint will still leave a border white line on the dot matrix, This is unpreventable as the tint does not stick nor form well in this particular area.
I spoke to another guy who actually does PPF And he said the same. The best way forward is Factory tinted Glass.

Hi Phil

After much searching it seems no vinyl company is confident of completely matching the OEM decals so I have swallowed the bitter pill and ordered an OEM set from Mercedes.

Let me know if you are still after those bumper sections as I’ll be selling all the sections apart from the one I need.

Cheers

Tom
