After being a long term lurker, I finally registered and decided to join the forum!

I am on the hunt for a C63 AMG almost 2 years after I was close to purchasing one - went for an E90 M3 Saloon instead.

So, a few questions.

The Performance Pack - I am struggling to work out when it does and doesn't have an LSD.

I am looking at a couple of cars at the weekend, both with Performance Packs - one allegedly has an LSD and the other does not - both cars are 58 plates.

So, my main question, do I need an LSD?

Second question, what does the standard Performance Pack get you?

Many Thanks

Is it not the performance pack plus that has lsd?

Nope

Mb released 2 performance packs

The performance pack plus has updated brakes, increase bhp, red calipers carbon rear spoiler and a retrimed steering wheel

In summary:

Performance Pack (up to end of 2009) has:

LSD
Uprated (and expensive to replace!) brakes
Alcantara Steering wheel
Stiffer suspension

Performance Pack Plus (from 2010 on) has:

30hp increase (but in reality it IS more than 30hp...and feels like a lot more!)
Uprated (and again expensive to replace!) brakes with the red calipers
Alcantara Steering wheel
Carbon rear spoiler

These Plus versions can be identified from the earlier PP by a darker grey engine cover and the red brake calipers.

The Plus version do not have LSD unless the spec expressly states this - it is a c.£1500 option on top of the PPP.

They also don't have the stiffer suspension from the earlier PP and as such gets the standard softer springs and dampers. Personal preference but I much preferred the stiffer set-up of my first PP to the softer PPP that I had after that but you can get the earlier-spec suspension fitted for about £1k.

In all cases, I deem the LSD to be essential on a 450bhp+ car and would not buy one without it.

Hope this helps :thumb:

Mine does not have a LSD. With the type of driving I do I don't think I need it...

I went with one as much as being a safety feature...As Palmball says it is an additional £1500 as an option on the 2010 models and didn't come with the PPP.

Good to hear from you Andy! Hope you are doing ok?

Hi see sixty

Yes i have, if you drive with the ESP on then you don't need one :thumb: but if you drive or play with the ESP OFF with alot of throttle commitment then the car is much more controllable.:bannana:

ok i do drive like a lady - never turn the ESP off

Find a open space with plenty of room on the first few attempts, hold the ESP button in for a few seconds until ESP OFF is displayed. Then have a drive about, you will have a Big smile on your face and you will not believe the extra power you get. Especially out of a corner without the ESP taking alot of power away :D :D :D

Hey guys - like I said - I have a car without LSD and to be honest I have never been in the situation where I have thought that I need it...

For regular driving - which face it, most of us do - what real advantage does it offer?

For a used C63 buyer I think you have to ask yourself whether you need it or not...

Hey buddy.

Is this true?

I was under the impression that full power was always available with ESP on until the point when the wheels begin to slip, at which point the power is reigned in?

I don't mean that you get more bhp with the ESP switched off, but you do not get any taken away from you.
Lets face it, any reasonable amount of throttle at low speed in the dry or quite abit of speed in the wet you will get wheel spin and in turn get you throttle taken away.

I just brought my e320cdi 2000 estate just before the snow. I can tell you for a fact it was great driving in the snow even uphill . I noticed the eps fickered quite a lot in the snow uphill. the tyres did not even slip in the snow .
When i was driving the e300d 1992 estate( which had no eps) . The wheels sliped badly that turned round home and used my newly acquired e320cdi with eps. I never had or driven a car with lsd so I cannot say about LSD.

I will take Justin1600 advise about switching off the eps during normal drive will post my conclusions after monday afternoon.
