HI
I am in the south of France and having fun up and down the various cols. It's fair to say they C63 AMG is having exercise

Today, after a couple of hundred miles in S+ and sport handling, it began to emit black smoke on heavy acceleration.

I stopped and there is an oily substance dripping from the cats and it smells ! but no sign of where it came from. The oil temp at the time was 137 degrees . The outside temp is in their high 30' s

After leaving it to cool and ending the day driving miss daisy style, all seems well.

The engine oil looks good and hasn't dropped level. It is 2 years old and 18k miles. It's fully under warrenty, but I am in France !

Anyone had this before ? My fellow travellers think it's gearbox venting because of the temperature and big lateral G ???

I had this on mine at Nurburgring last year, 129 degrees and a cloud of smoke out the back. Initially thought the worst but it seems the gearbox vents over the exhaust and is prone to venting a bit when being used well. Possible a little over filled? 4000 miles in mine since and never missed a beat.
Also bear in mind the dash temp is the engine oil, not gearbox but does give some indication that it may be a 'spirited' drive.

Cheers guys. Tomorrow the Pyrenees & back on it !

If you're going into Andorra from the Toulouse end, through Pamiers/Foix up the N20 then once you get to El Pas de la Casa don't take the tunnel but use the old road through to Andorra la Vella instead. If you're going that far obviously.

Used to do this every other weekend when I worked in France, mainly as a cig run. From Andorra la Vella, we'd then come out the Spanish side and turn right for Llagunes, then up to Vielha through Bossost and Les and you're back into France again near Tarbes.

This is an awesome mountain run in the summer.

You'll thank me if you do this run, especially on the twisties near Llagunes. :)

Only observation is that 137C (assuming this was for the engine oil), is right on the limit of what you should consider a safe level in terms of max temp. Personally I'd back off as I exceeded 130C, regardless, just for engine longevity if nothing else.

Yes - we went to Pas this Christmas for skiing, and the top road is lovely. Stop at the top cafe and enjoy the view.

More important where are the pictures?
Enjoy and don't over heat those breaks..
