Hi All, I am new to this forum, I have a C63 Estate 6.2 - 2013 and I just wanted to get some clarification on the Exhaust Modifications, my setup is currently standard but with the secondary Cats removed and I have the Miltek Slip on and Clamp Pipe.

It sounds good when on the gas from 3000/4000 RPM upwards but pretty sure its quieter at low revs, the exhaust note is for sure alot deeper than stock.

I had a W204 C63 coupe with standard setup before and that sounded so different low end and also much more Raspy throughout.

I have read alot of comments etc on Secondary cats removed and the resinator removed but heard so many mixed opinions, I have explored YouTube with videos on different setup secondary cats removed and resinator on/off but Its not like listening to the car sat right next to you in the flesh.

What I wanted to ask if anyone has been there and Removed the Secondary Cats and The Resinator? What do you think, is it actually too loud? Does it Drone on the motorway?

I just want a proper answer from first hand experience.

If someone has this setup would it be possible to have a listen? I'm really unsure whether to go ahead and get the X PIPE fitted which will cut out the Resinator I dont want it to sound like an airplane, and I'm told it's a ball ache to have it refitted after and another £300/500.

Thanks

Droning is a very subjective thing. Some ppl doesn't really mind or bothered about it, some owners are sensitive to droning.
Exhaust note is relatively quieter on idle or low revs in estate form compared to coupe and also louder when woot due the the boot space.

I have IPE headers and full straight pipes with valvetronic mufflers, on top of a supercharger. And on full chat, I think its ok. But many thinks it LOUD.

Where are you based? That would help in identifying fellow owners who might be able to help.

There are loads of members on facebook C63 AMG UK group who are based all over who will be pleased to offer a sound test.

Hope this helps.

It comes down to do you want your C63 to sound like Pavarotti or Lemmy - Motörhead ?;)

I’m sticking with Pavarotti :D

Thanks for the Reply, that is a good way of putting it. I guess the worst thing that can happen is pay twice and revert it

I'm not sure it's because of the estate situation, my Coupe was very loud and the exhaust completely standard but maybe the tailpipes were closer to my ears it seemed louder

I'm based in south London would be great to find someone with Secondary cats out and XPipe replacement of the Resinator.

However I did chat to a guy today from a Company in Ashford that have Fabricated exhausts for many years and they said that Straight pipes from the main Cats to the mufflers is better? So without the Xpipe? Some other say the X pipe Balances the banks on the engine?? Even more confused now.

Start with an X pipe or resonator delete before touching the cats. I get burbles on the overrun since I did mine, very happy with it.

You might lose a bit of the character with resonator delete, since you already done secondary cat delete. US owners uses x pipe as it maintains the back pressure. There is a slight drop, very very minimal 2-3bhp with straight pipes replacing OEM resonator.
UK owners generally don't go for x-pipe as it cost more, and most just wants it to be louder, which is achievable with straight pipes replacing resonator.

I'm thinking go with the X pipe so indeed it is doing what the Resinator did before but without the sound restriction.

I am being quoted £400 for the Xpipe

PS I do still have the Secondary Cats in my garage

Few simple questions to help you:

1) Do you want it louder even when idle or lower revs? if so, the x-pipe may not be suitable for you as its main purpose is to soften it down a bit but still give it the AMG character at full WOOT.

2) Are you ok if it is slightly raspy? Straight pipe replacing OEM resonator will make the top end slightly raspy compare to OEM. Very minimal but to some people, the increase in volume is perceived as being raspy.

The easiest way i would suggest - come unto Facebook C63 AMG UK group. There is a few around south london or farnborough or south coast who might be able to help.

The other question is:

Was your coupe mapped?
Remap opens the throttle more compared to OEM and gives more sound too...

Thanks for your input some good questions I need to ask myself, if I'm honest my estate feels quicker! I dont actually know of it was mapped I cannot Confirm.

I just want it to sound like my coupe may cost me to find out. I will.gove the AMG Facebook Group a go and see if I can have a listen to them.

It's quite a tough decision what to actually do. Would it make it louder if I put back in the secondary cats? Or

Nope. Putting back secondary cats will make it quieter.
Just get a private road and try and beat the 155 limiter. Then you will know its map or not.
Or one of those OBD plug in thing to check throttle opening on woot, if more than 85% throttle opening, then likely mapped

Go for a long tube header plus remap and get a good performance and noise increase! With a remap, you should be up to around 550bhp.

Put the secondary cats back in if needed.

An Update I went for a Resinator Delete and X Pipe replacement and I've lost the AMG Bark!! So disappointed. I'm going to revert the whole exhaust back to stock I think.

That's unfortunate but good your trying to achieve the sound you want. How would you compare it to the tone your exhaust had before the Res delete. Have you thought of straight pipes in place of the res/ xpipe. Straight through to the mufflers.

I was thinking of having some exhaust mods done to my m156 e63 lump but hearing your disappointment I'm not so sure.

Long tube headers seems the route many C63 owners go M156 owners in general but hard to get a true exhaust tone listening on videos.

Hi Thanks for the Comment, yes I'm really trying to keep the AMG Bark but turn the volume up, if I'm honest I believe the resanator is producing most of that deep Bark? I haven't lost it all completely but it is 100 percent Raspier and by adding the X Pipe I'm losing the Depth of the AMG Noise. I'm actually really toying with the idea of putting the Resanator back in, however it Does NOT DRONE Luckily I've had it made so I can bolt off the X Pipe and the old Resanator within that back section. I can tell you for sure that the Estate Verses the coupe sound very different from inside the cabin, Mercedes have done a top job with sound proofing!

I think I Might try straight Pipes tomorrow where the X Pipe is and report back.

As you say it's very difficult to grasp the noise via a YouTube Video, I think it is just a trial and error.
Cheers
