Hi I’ve recently had my radiator and a few/ most of the water pipes replaced on my W205 C63, I have driven 3 miles since having the car back and the coolant light come on. I took the cap off checked the levels and started the car but after about a minute or two it boils over and overflows.

Could this be an air lock or is this looking like a head gasket? I can’t find any tutorials online for correct bleeding procedures with the two coolant reservoirs. (It’s over flowing from the main one not the one in the middle)

Any help or suggestions would help as I can’t sleep now.. lol 😭

Hi

Obvious question is who did the recent work and have you taken it / had it recovered to them?
Its can't be a co-incidence.....
Do you have any codes (perhaps the thermostat or water pump

What temp are you getting on the dash
Any secondary sign such as steam from under bonnet or exhaust?
Fans working?

Hi

It’s been recovered back to the garage now, the temp was around 50c on the dash so it really didn’t get too hot, no steam from under bonnet but the outlet/bleed top hose from coolant reservoir was extremely hot within a few minutes, also slight tinny noise on idle and increases with revs (pulley or belt)
Have not checked for codes yet, we did try to vacuum the coolant out but it would only sit at about 20psi usually cars would go to 25/30 with the kit we have. But it did hold the pressure at 20 so we refilled but not confident it’s bled properly.

50'C is not hot enough, should be around 80'C when driving normally and possibly 90'C in traffic/hot day etc. Thermostat not functioning properly ?

Set the heater to the highest temparature, heater fan on, drive the car to get up to temparature.( you might need to open the windows) Does the heater blow hot? if not you have an air lock.
Is this a Mercedes specialist that you are using?

A lot of the modern complex cooling systems require them to be vacuum bled to prevent airlocks.

What was the reasoning behind the radiator and most the coolant pipe replacement in the first place

update - needed to use xentry to bleed the system electronically, after this it was fine.
