Hi all, could you offer any advice on getting the down pipes removed from my w204 c63 please? It’s booked it but I would like to know peoples thoughts please. And if it will pass an mot.
Cheers xx

Theoretically removal of any factory fitted emissions equipment is a fail....whether it passed the emissions test or not (so thats you who remove EGRs, secondary cats etc).....be we all know that in the real world most testers don't know what each and every car should have and if it passes the exhaust emissions test.......good enough!
However......they do sound great with straight through LTH's and there is a fair bit of extra power to be liberated from the factory manifolds.!!!

This will certain make more power......

Oh ok, thanks for this. So just to clarify, straight through LTH’s is the downpipes (not downpours🙄) from the manifold? This is my first Mercedes’ so getting to grips with all. And removing these would be a bit louder and more power? Cheers

Yes....Long Tube Headers....

Or you could go Short tube....not quite as many horses....but easier to fit and no ground clearance lost....which can be an issue with certain Long headers.

Ok cool thanks so much. What about just removing the Down pipes/cats and replacing them with a straight through pipe?

Slightly more power....especially if you have mapped on a rolling road to match.....and more of that lovely V8 rumble. Keep the resonators and you should not get too much drone in the cabin. I did this very job a friends car.....and then he went further and fitted LTHs......with no cats at all it was deafening.....not for me!!

remove the centre box / res and that's all that is needed on AMGs.

stock sound in low revs; absolute monster when in S and S+.

The more common exhaust mod is removing the secondary cats, improvement on sound and much less expensive and a ballache than installing a new manifold

Are you saying that all custom exhausts are illegal? If so that's a lot of companies breaking the law.

Without primary cats, your car will fail the MOT emissions test and you'll need to have the O2 sensors coded out or have a (MOT fail) EML illuminated all the time.
If you want more sound, get in touch with Imran at MSL or Acid and they can advise and carry out the work you decide on.

As stated above, a presence of a cat is needed buddy, at least primary and the stock muffler for that signature sound. It still sounds mighty, even with secondary and resonator delete, so worth considering. If you go long tubes, consider a least 200 cell cat for emissions. Not much needed to crank the volume here, so most merc specialist should be able to help 👳‍♂️

It’s on for the car to do that is it? And just put straight pipes in?

Most custom exhausts are cat back....so nothing wrong there. If you delete any cats whilst replacing your exhaust technically its illegal and an MOT fail......but then so are many other things that no one worries about. Technically it can void your insurance too.....but again I've never heard of anyone not being paid out because of it.
Many of those companies you said about sell they pipes for "motorsport use only" to get around selling them. Took me ages to grind/polish the "not for highway use" etching off my bikes full race Laser exhaust!!
