C63 ECU Re Map

That is basically the gains I have been told the K1 upgrade will achieve. I have no way of confirming that this is so.

It's a C63 so normally aspirated. It will be interesting to see if they can gain any meaningful increase, other than lifting the rev limiter.
when i had the dms one they said it put over 50bhp and 50lb of torque on top of the factory settings.
there was a lot of difference before and after, it was fully derestricted as well:D

The same engine in a e63 makes approx 530bhp.
That will be more than just a remap. The same engine in the C and E 270 CDI made different power due to the intake manifold. The C didn't have enough space for the larger E one, so made less power as standard.

That is basically the gains I have been told the K1 upgrade will achieve. I have no way of confirming that this is so.

Which is why I'm asking for performance testing figures.
You, I, and Benjy have no way of knowing what the actual gains will be unless he tests them.

Tuning companies often fudge figures and say things that just aren't true and because no-one ever tests, they don't know any different.

wemorgan has asked if people will do this simple test to check for improvements.

Alternatively a G-force meter will tell all.

They said similar to a member that had a C230k done. He took it and got it tested and got his money back.

If I have an extended stay in the uk I will try and get the car dyno'd.

So do I for ...vv, which seems a lot for a straight remap.

Will you do some timed acceleration figures both before and after please. They don't need to be 0-62 (100kmh), any speed range will do.

Have you got access to a G-force meter to see what really happens?

This could be really interesting.

Yes my pal has a g-force meter and it will be tested.

Before and after please Benjy. :) Same road and conditions if you can.

Oh no!!!!

Benjy...just do TWO things for me (well, it's for you really) please.

1. Make sure your map comes with a money back guarantee.

2. Have a dyno independently done before and after at a place different to where you're having the map done . This last bit in bold is most important. For this around the London area I'd probably recommend Evolve in Luton or Surrey Rolling Road.

Only then will you be sure you've got value for money as you'll always 'feel' it's quicker after a map....it's the placebo effect! Indeed, I was sure my Brabus tuned car was faster at first but the telling point was when I had that taken off and the standard map put back on....the car didn't feel one jot slower!

Tuners often quote big gains for the C63 as its based on a standard 457bhp one - the PPP basically already has the state of tune that you get with a remap. If they have lots of experience with C63's you can bet your bottom dollar it won't be on PPP versions.

You know all about my Brabus upgrades and the fact is that all tuners do a very similar thing with the ECU....theres nothing much someone else can do that Brabus won't have done to get power safely from that engine. Yes, it likely can be possible to get more power but you need to be careful how some may do it - some tuners make the car run very lean to make more power yet it's not very safe for the engine. Hopefully one of the other guys who gave me a lot of technical feedback will pop along to chip in with more info on this.

With regards to the E63, the main reason it has more power is due to the intake and exhaust system - the C63 suffers from a cramped engine bay and as such creates a lot of heat and it just doesn't breathe as effectively. It's the same with the SLS - that car has a very fancy induction system which takes up a lot of the space at the front of the car and this again is where a lot of the extra power comes from.

Sorry to put a downer on this and I hope whatever you do you're happy with it (well, even I saw some bhp increase - it was only 4bhp but it was up at least). I do know the feeling of having the draw of the promise of more power by remapping so I know exactly how you're feeling and nothing I say will likely change your mind ;) (if it was me, I'd be stubbornly going ahead with it anyway ).

However, after having umpteen cars remapped (nearly every car I've owned and I've never, ever seen more than a 10bhp increase on any N/A car) from a variety of different tuners, I am extremely sceptical of any claims on a naturally aspirated car....I sort of feel that I've been through the pain so other PPP owners don't have to!

MRC definitely know what they doing, I spoke to the guy that does the tuning after a friend recommended them ( he had i foreign name cant remember it lol) and he was telling me that's he's tuned AMG's before, he seemed to know the 55k quite well anyway..

Hope it goes well bud..

Paul

Thanks Paul, yeah I know the guy you mean....the other fella there I think is called Doug.

They have got a great rep apparently.

^^ I just filled in my Census to say I wasn't religious...

might have to rethink... :D

Thanks Palmball..

Before and after please Benjy. :) Same road and conditions if you can.

They are going to put it on the rolling road before and after for accurate readings so I will be able to report what they state on Friday!:thumb:

NO, NO, NO.

Don't believe their figures, a RR can be made to say anything they want..

Either perform road testing or as Palmball says get it done independently.

That £650 will be MUCH better spent somewhere else.

Spend £2 on a stopwatch and keep the £648 for something worthwhile. In fact, just give me the £650 and I'll tell you your car will make 550Bhp so you can set the line on the wall a bit higher than your mates in the pub.. :)

How you doing mate, yeah its going to be an interesting one but have been told they will get mine to the 520 bhp mark. As I said mate these are the guys that lifted Nigels car from the 500 to 786 mark so seem to know their stuff plus apparently they have done a lot of C63's across Europe so hoping they know whats what!

TBH mate if it works and all is good then great. They have quite a rep this company so I do trust their works and also their dyno....lets see what happens and I'll let you know what comes of it Friday (I'll text you when I'm there bud) If worse comes to the worse I'll have it put back!:thumb:

I'm doing good mate - I seriously just hope whatever you get you're happy with...there are obviously plenty of happy people out there with their remaps hence these companies exist.

Just bare in mind that Nigels car is turbocharged and the car Lopes mentions (AMG 55K) is supercharged - these are much easier to get more power out of but naturally aspirated is a different matter.

Forgive my scepticism but my history of remapping N/A cars....

BMW M3 - 4bhp
BMW M6 - 1bhp (yep, a whole ONE)
BMW C63 - 4bhp

All with different yet well reputed tuners :wallbash:

Should I bother with the 40bhp promised by DMS on the Maserati?? Jesus, even I don't learn my lesson....anyway, a few guys on the Maserati forum are getting a DMS group buy and theres one other guy who's got a GT-S like mine who can do all the testing this time :D

Benjy - PLEASE.....do a rolling road at somewhere independent before and after. You've got nothing to lose except knowing the truth :thumb:

Oh, I forgot to mention something else....at the top speed event I went to last year with Lopes, there was a guy there with an RS6 (previous model to Nigels) that was supposedly mapped and dyno'd to 640bhp.

Lopes will back me up on this....my C63 was faster. Work that one out :dk:

Hi Benjy
sounds exciting
I understood remaps were supposed to offer ( as well as extra bhp ) smoother/better throttle response and / or better economy, so on a C63 any improvement in economy will be worth a fortune *! and with a sharper throttle it should certainly feel even more lively
*payback on the petrol should be about a fortnight for £650:D
good luck mate see you at GW (probably filling my mirrors) hehe.

Why not spend the money on a better exhaust system to let the big hearted thing breathe better, whilst your exhaust may sound nice, it will be strangling the engine.

Good luck with your remap mate , hope you get what you are looking .
My cars geting done on saturday .
Hope to hope to catch up with you soon bud .

Heyyyy.... How you doing Matty, yeah I hope so to but reading Some of the guys concerns on here it does make a lot if sense whst Palmball is saying. I just hope I am not wasting my time and money. I think it's just one of these things that I have got to try myself just for the curiosity side of things.

So hows that beast of yours and what are you having done mate?

Be good to catch up soon.
