While I have been in lock down, I thought I would have a go at getting the exhaust tips on my 2014 C204 C63 re-chromed. Here is a little write-up of what it entailed.
This is how the tips looked.
So first I removed the rear diffuser which makes access to the silencer rubber hangers much easier.
I then removed the rear sections of the exhausts from the car.
Now the difficult part removing the tips. Also if you were not aware the tips are made out of stainless steel then chrome plated, everything else on the system is also stainless steel.
Each tip is held on with two welded tabs and two straight welds.
The straight welds are easy to deal with and grind off with no problem with an angle grinder.
The tabs are a lot more difficult mainly because they are a pig to access. I purchased some diamond cutting discs for the dremel, these were pretty useless as you just do not have the room to use them.
So I purchased 2 (9903) Tungsten Carbide Cutter Rounded Tip, 3.2 mm Rotary Tool Accessory for the dremel.
With this tool and a lot of patience I was able to cut through the stainless tabs and release the tips.
For some strange reason I have no photos of cutting the tabs.
Then I removed all the pitting on the tips with the dremel and a rotary band sander.
Then I drilled holes for small 3mm bolts through the tips and the flange of the exhaust to facilitate the re-fixing of the tips.
The tips were de-burred and cleaned up to the best of my ability then packaged up and sent to the chrome platers.
So, whilst waiting for the return of the tips I cleaned up, coated in vactan and painted the rear silencer box hangers.
