Relative is looking to change his M4 for a C63 Saloon within the next few months, preferably before the new car tax law.

Basically just looking for any info regarding any possible facelifts? Is their anything coming up this year that is substantial?

Doubt it
The w205 has another 2 years to go yet before a facelift.
Why a facelift? Surely moving from a plastic 6 cylinder to a proper V8 is enough

Haha touche! I'm in love with the 63 Coupe at the moment but he's thinking about the saloon to be more practical.

Still indecisive about the C63 or C63s, we don't track the cars so what are the main plus factors for the s?

Yup, the seats in the C63S are lovely.

So, to understand the new rules coming in, in April 2017...help me out.

A new C63S, emitting 200g/km CO2 will cost for the first year:

- £1200 for first year road tax
- £310 supplementary cost for cars costing over £40,000 when purchased new
- Total First Year Tax: £1510

Thereafter the first year and until the car is over 5yrs old:

- £140 road tax
- £310 supplementary cost for cars costing over £40,000 when purchased new
- Total Tax Per Year (2 -5yrs): £450

From 5yrs onward, the car will cost:

- £140 per year (flat rate)
- £0 supplementary cost for cars costing over £40,000 when purchased new
- Total Tax Per Year (5yrs+): £140

So, to purchase a C63S brand new before April 2017 would cost you £500 first year tax, and then £270 per year thereafter, for eternity. Over 10yrs this would look like:

Pre April 2017 ~ 10yrs: £500 (yr 1) + £2430 (yrs 2-10) = £2930
Post April 2017 ~ 10yrs: £1510 (yr 1) + £1800 (yrs 2-5) + £700 (yrs 6-10) = £4010
Delta (extra cost to owner over 10yrs): £1080

Therefore, those looking to buy a used C63S over 1yr old would be better off buying one purchased brand new from the previous owner before April 2017, otherwise would face £450 per year tax for the remaining first 5yr period vs £270 per year at current rate.

Those looking to purchase a used C63S after April 2022 would be better of buying one was bought new after April 2017 and therefore pay £140 per year vs pre-April 2017 cars which would cost £270 per year. However, this isn't essentially going to cost you less as the outright cost to purchase the vehicle will be more for 5yr old and under used cars in comparison to 5yr old and over.

The cost of taxing a C63S bought brand new after April 2017 only becomes less if owned by the original owner for 19yrs:

Cost of tax over 20yrs pre-April 2017: £5630
Cost of tax over 20yrs post-April 2017: £5410
Delta (saving to original buyer): £220

Yeah, even if there was a facelift, I doubt you'd get it built and registered in time for the new tax laws. Does he not want the Coupé coming from an M4? Far better looking car IMO

I gather buying a used car registered before April 17 even if it is from a dealer still falls under the older road tax structure?

Yes, anything purchased BRAND NEW before April 2017 follows today's structure. A 2016 C63 Saloon for example will cost £270 per year always. A lot of people seem to think that as soon as April 2017 hits that every car will be paying under the new rules.
I'd personally not mind this, as my C63 costs £515 per year right now, and if the new rules covered it I'd be paying £450 for the next 2yrs and then £140 thereafter :).

Not going to happen though.
