Thinking of fitting some k&n filters, anybody had any experience of these? Do they make any difference?

I suppose they will save cost when servicing!

I inherited them with my car.

Kept them for 4 years.

Discovered that my inde doesn't touch them - I presumed they would clean them and oil them for me when required but then that is my fault for assuming and not inquiring.

I took them out at the last service because the idea of my car ingesting oil used to catch the crap in the gauze concerns me.

See if you can guess how much difference I noticed after fitting standard MB filters...

I'll give you a clue - it's the square root of something!

As for a difference in sound - similar result.

Thanks

I forgot about out the oiling , I've heard of horror stories of the oil seeping into the MAF

It's only if you over-oil them but I don't fancy relying on myself or anyone else to get that balance right...

Not worth the benefit in my mind.

In my inde's defence - they used to clean the filter out for me and I do very low miles per year but even so - risky ground.

I'd put the money towards a remap if I were you - and some replacement headers and exhaust mods if you like the sound of V8s and / or want more performance (do the remap second if you intend to do that).

Exhaust mod is top of my list.

Need to get to a meet to hear some mods.

I used YouTube a lot - some members cars from here and other bits and pieces from other manufacturers. You need a decent set of 2.1 speakers to get the full preview benefit.

Took me three years to decide on the sound I wanted but worth it in the end.

What did you end up going with?

I want to keep it OEM as much as possible.

I bought Kleemann headers and had a custom exhaust (cross pipe / decat but standard back boxes) done at Torqueflow who are based in MSL Performance in Birmingham.

With filters, you are supposed to be able to hear more induction but I couldn't hear any difference although with Kleemanns, you hear the supercharger more anyway.

On your car - I'd be surprised.

How much of it placebo?!, if you believe it's made a difference you'll feel the difference? So hard to tell.

Did I say it's made a difference? Didn't feel any difference.

All good as in no issues with MAF, etc.
