Hi all, I'm new here. Just joined. I've just bought a low miles 2014 507 Edition. It doesn't have the 471 LSD, so its a must for me to bolt on either a Quaife or a Wavetrac. Im leaning toward the Wavetrac because of the slightly improved characteristics. Its 2 horse race between these 2 as i don't want to go down the clutch plate route as they are not maintenance free. I know this as my father owned Gripper Diffs, so id have one of those otherwise. My question on the Wavetrac is about fitment. I read some owners need to have the diff housing shaved or fettled to fit the new diff inside. Is this correct? Is it minor I'm guessing? I suspect if so its a question of just grinding away a little cast material somewhere? Can anyone advise on this - also if its an issue on earlier cars or all. My car is 64 plate. Thanks.

Also when replacing the diff, what other parts should I change out (that doesnt come with the diff). Oil seals? Can anyone send a link where to get them at decent price? What sealant should be used on the housing when re-building? What fluid/oil to use?
Thanks. Will be asking more question son other matters also.

Hi there
I fitted a wavetrac lsd to my 507 saloon, a must!! yea every so little to shave off the housing to fit, I replaced the all the drive seals, got from my local mb dealer, the oil was what wavetrac recommended , thought I remember it was hard enough to source at the time, 2020-2021, again with the sealant , I just can't remember without looking back over paperwork, but again it was either mb dealer/ or what wavetrac recommend.
I've pics from it being done with all the paperwork etc I can share if it helps
Cheers

Stil looking back on my phone of pics when mine was done, both drive seals I replaced both are the same part numbers , the other seal was for the front of the diff from the main drive shaft ( seal ring)

I was looking at the front seal - called the pinion shaft seal i believe. The diff's typically come with the two output shaft seals and not the front pinion seal. Looking at the drawings I am not sure the front pinion seal gets disturbed. It looks like it gets dis-attached from the prop shaft further up and not where the front seal is fitted... I havent bought one of these for that reason. Not sure if anyone can confirm my understanding is correct or not?

Thanks for all the info @Barrymckenna. I havent had a diff fitted yet, its sitting in my office. However i decided to go for a Quaife in the end. Mainly because i got it for £910 Inc delivery & VAT (inc 2 seals also). The cheapest Wavetrac without the 2 seals was £1160. If the price was the same - id have gone for wavetrac. However given the price diff (forgive the pun) and the fact that there is hardly any difference between the 2 diffs on the road, it was an easy choice. I am not interested in tracking the car and getting a wheel up over curbs. My 507 is too nice and the thought of treating it that way doesnt appeal. Its not a C63 BS or a McLaren 720 so I respect what it is and what its not. That was my logic on the diff choice. Looking forward to having my install done soon.

For anyone interested i got my Quaife from Matt Lewis racing. There was an offer on and i also got a additional discount code for an extra 10%. My Indy specialist could been that price even with his trade discount applied.

My mechanic didn't replace the front seal because of this reason above, just checked a box with the original diff in it and realised the pinion seal was still there and not used at the time.

Exactly my thought too
