C63 - M156 or M177??

In my youthful days, I used to think the same until I got an estate with a lump. Always thought they were only good for ferrying dogs or taking dead bodies to the cemetery. I was totally wrong, i would not hesitate to jump back. Its cool dude 😎
Absolutely.
Wagons rock.
And yes, it is a wagon ;)

I get that there is a massive following for fast estate cars but I have never really got it. To be fair the C Class estates look pretty good but the larger estates in the E Class and 5 Series are just too unsightly for me. The back ends on them just don’t look great. I understand if you have dogs or need to take rubbish to the tip but I wouldn’t understand why you’d choose an estate over a saloon car

Estates can look very cool.

I actually bought a C7 A6 Avant based on looks alone, had no need for the load capacity, just liked the look of it 😂

It’s even better in RS6 guise 👍

I prefer the look of the C-class estate to the saloon…

Just shows how everybody is different and we all have different tastes. I just see a black estate car with tinted windows and automatically think it looks like a hearse

Where I come from, only tradespeople and hippies drove around in estates both of which I respect but it made estates awfully uncool. First time I met a car person who thought estates were cool was in this country. It shocked me when I heard it and still does to a lesser extent to this day

Ah... ours isn't black (won't have a black car again) and I agree that black estate cars tend to have that 'hearse' look about them. Being an estate gives nothing away to the saloon version in terms of refinement, ride or handling and has advantages on the occasion we need to shift something.

In Germany the estate or combi is the more popular body style. I also think that they are a bit of sleeper in that nobody expects an estate to go around corners or have any useful degree of acceleration performance. Even though ours is a diesel, it still pulls very well and still a very competent car that can be fun too. I wouldn't mind a C63 version, but am too tight to stump up for one.

Apart from...... :)

  • More boxy, less aerodynamic design
  • More practical, less sporty look
  • Higher fuel consumption
  • More weight, which can affect performance.
  • More road noise from the rear due one box design.
  • Often (but not always) harder rear suspension which affects ride and handing
  • Less popular, i.e., harder to find or more expensive
But I can see the attraction from a practical point of view. But in 39 years of driving snd bringing up a family I've never felt the need for one personally.

What have the Romans ever done for us?

Extra weight generally a valid point, but not necessarily aero....the TWR BTCC Volvo 850 estate was actually more aerodynamically efficient than the saloon, albeit not by much.

The rs6 is a damn fine looking specimen. My c63s estate was not a good looking car at all. However the s212 facelift estate is a damn fine looking specimen in red paint . They had one e350 in a showroom where I bought my e93 m3 this week and it was stunning. Pictures don't do it justice 1000051465.jpg

It’s just that really long sloping back end that I find unsightly
