Hi guys

Trying to get some opinions on what effect mileage has on these cars? Would you consider 35k high on a 3 year old car? When do things start to go wrong? Would you always try to go for the lowest possible mileage?

Thanks

I found a 2008 car with 27000 miles on it, last year. I've since done 10000 more miles in it with no problems whatsoever.

I don't think 35000 is particularly high for a 3 year old one but it's always better to go for a lower mileage car if one is available with the right options.

Good luck in your quest.

I personally don't have a problem, when it come to higher than average mileage on a car. I tend to look more at the condition & previous maintenance of the vehicle. It does however have a bearing on it's resale value, but then I don't consider 35k miles on a three year old car as high

I was speaking to a chap just the other day that has over 100k miles on his C63...... It dynod at 520bhp after a re-map.......

This is something i have always pondered over, when i was looking to buy one the cars with over 30k miles seemed to be slightly cheaper than the cars with half the mileage but i suppose the cars with lower mileage appealed to me more rightly or wrongly, my car is a 62 plate with 6100 on the clock but i probably paid 2k more for it than an equivalent car with 30k miles but the cars exterior is flawless not even one stonechip which was also important to me.

Hmm thanks for your comments, my dilemma is I can get a car with average to me mileage (35k) with a higher spec compared with a low mileage (say 10k) lower spec car in my budget.

I don't do massive mileage on my current car I have done 5k miles on average in 12 months over the last 3 years.

So rather than resale my issue is will I get a car that's suffered a lot of wear and tear and therefore need me to replace a load of parts...I am planning to buy from merc by the way.

While it has an impact on resale due to a secondary business (taxi trade) I've known many well serviced cars be superbly reliable with 200'000+ miles showing.
In my experiance usually at around 5 years/100'000 miles there are common suspects to replace such as bushes/wishbone/steering & suspension parts etc. Plus engine sensors with rubber diaphrams and the odd electrical issue. Once these are done they're good to go for another 100'000.
Luckily gone are the days of 70'000 mile end of life Cortinas.
