C63 Prices...

My c63 507 coupe (204) is 3 years old today and it has been the best car I have owned. I was aware when I purchased that the c63 205 was being launched but I wanted one of the last NA generation motors. I was given "chapter and verse" by the internet experts as to how it would be worth nothing after 3 years.... Well, I was in the mercedes dealership enquiring about another car last week and the sales manager said that he was witnessing a definate rise in demand for the 507 Edition, prices for well looked after (not abused ex lease) reasonable spec cars are fetching a premium and prices are increasing not dropping. A quick glance in the classifieds has backed this up. I am sure this effect will spread to all the c63 range as I believe its a future classic

No disrespect (and I'm not C63 bashing!) but a 3 year old C63 has still got a long curve of depreciation left in it. You maybe have a small % blip in that curve but no way will it have bottomed out.

I suspect the salesman's patter is simply an effort to prise you out of your current car and into a new one, especially as you'd made enquiries... :o

My "losses" will only be crystalised when I sell and since I have no plans on selling the I can sleep at night. No exactly the opposite, The salesman told me to hold onto it and sell in 18 months (not sure why 18 months)

All C63 prices have came down but the good ones will always hold prices well.

The 205 63 saloon isn't appealing to me at all in terms of appearance. The seats are lovely as is the engine but that's about it. On the other hand the 205 S coupe is stunning esp with the larger wheels. Would love one but think I'd save a few more tens of thousands and get an S63 coupe

The 6.2 v8 will always do well in resale because it's the end of the line for the naturally aspirated engine. When you loot at the performance what would you have to spend on something new to match it? If you can keep the mileage reasonable and service record good then I think they are good buys. In addition,as much as my new one is good,it doesn't sound like my old one.

Any of the newer performance cars I'd buy are way to expensive.. for me at least..

991 turbo s 90k ish
GT3/RS silly money
C63S 65+K

New M3, Alfa, GTR, RR (apart from SVR). None of them appeal to me.
Ideal combo would be S63 coupe for chilling and G63 for ballin :-)

Bit below the belt...

As is the case with most new Mercedes, the first model takes a bit of getting used to and once you spend time in a W205 getting back into the W204 feels very dated.

The C63 TT has gone back to the more understated look, a lot classier, which won't attract the former Scooby, Evo and Astra owners like the W204 C63 did.

Just playing devil's advocate, you could also say it's a little below the belt to presume that anyone who ever happened to own a Subaru, Evo or Astra wouldn't be attracted to the new C63...

I don't think it looks bad, it just looks less aggressive than the outgoing W204, which some people prefer in a car. The newer C63 is more of a Q car like the older M division models used to be before they started putting carbon roofs and wide arches on everything :)

Seems to be plenty available for sale at £20k, whether or not they are decent examples is another story.

Owned a couple of Impreza's in my time and I'm not keen on the W205 shape

For me the money spent on one of those would be better off going on a similarly aged E63, now they look beautiful

Me too but I'm not a badge snob, I just appreciate each car for its merits or recognise drawbacks.

Nah, C63 black series for that cash ;)
Maybe a Litchfield fettled GTR; you'd be compromising on comfort and interior, but they are bloody rapid. Drove a Lambo Huracan over the weekend...that was nice too, PCP monthly payment anyone? ;)

Very true. It just kind of puts me off a bit...

I think the 5 speed on the E55 is probably the stronger unit.

Don't be too perturbed mate, it's not the most common issue that I'm aware of. Also all of these kinds of cars can cost you considering what they were new. Just a calculated risk :)

The 5 speed is meant to be stronger but I love the 7 speed in my CLS63.

For £15k I'd be looking at the E55/63 or CLS55/63. Both epic cars.

Wouldn't touch a cat D
I'd go for Alex's recommendation and get a CLS55 and then change to a C63 when you have enough surplus... you won't lose much money on either
In fact, that's what I have done once the CLS sells

Also, I've owned AMGs for nearly 9 years now. If you treat them well then there is a lower risk of anything going wrong.
Touch wood my biggest expense is brakes and tyres, then electrical as with most Mercedes (not just AMG)

I think once you are seated and comfy and you are listening to the exhaust note through open windows on a warm summer day( so that will be twice a year) you can forget the looks and just grin. When it's approaching 7,000 rpm the grin turns to a manic laugh. When it's doing that the only drawback is the rate fuel pump runs at.
