C63 S205 Winter Tyres - 245 all round ok?

Hi all,

Need to get some winter tyres for my C63 estate (2019 model). Going for Contiwinter Contact TS830p after reading good reviews on them. My wheels are 265/35 19 rear and 245/35 19 front but local tyre fitter can only find 245 not 265. I've read some people put front sizes all round for winter tyres. Is this ok to do/recommended? Fitter said 265 would be better but 245 would still work.

For what it's worth I live in Berkshire so only time they'll see snow is for a week in UK plus another week in Alps (and it's snow when I think people say fronts all round is preferable). Most driving will be 0-10 degrees UK roads.

Most winter tyre set ups are the same size all round rather than staggered.

Very often winter tyres are smaller, either diameter or width

I'm using my existing alloys so question is should I go with 245 at the back (on alloys which are built for 265). It's more about working with the rims that I'm worried about. (Tyre stretched/deformed, alloys more exposed to kerbing). Question is should I go with them (because it'll make no real difference) - or should i only use 265 because it's what it's supposed to have and it's a high performance car etc?

You are driving in winter ..,I think the “high performance” aspect can be set aside

They will be stretched, I did the same the first year I used winter tyres. I bought a narrower set of wheels for the following winter. Your handbook will state recommended winter wheel and tyre sizes - go with that to avoid insurance complications.

It might help if we knew what the width of the rear wheel is, i.e., 8.5j or 9.5j etc.
There is info on the net showing the minimum and maximum width of tyre for each wheel width.
