Hi all looking for some advice please. I have been negotiating with a main dealer on a 2012 C63 everything was going well until i asked for a look at the digital service record and the multi point check sheet. I noticed a discrepancy between the time to next service date from the car to the digital service report, the car said service due in 350 days the service record showed next service due in 275 days. The explanation given to me is that the car must have been serviced by an independent but because they have no record of a service on the database they gave the car a major service on the 3rd of december. So an october 2012 car with 20,000 miles on the clock is only showing one service which the dealer have just carried out even though the service interval is 12mths or 15,000 miles whichever comes sooner. They have assured me this dosent affect the cars warranty.
What do you make of this? Run a mile or is this common place? Forgive me i am new to mercedes ownership is it correct these cars don't have a paper service book?

No. No service book just dealer computer crap. I've always wondered with mine I hardly use it so lucky if I do 400 miles a year some years but obviously my service indicator is still counting the days and when there up its service time weather it's done the mileage or not.

I wouldn't worry in the sense that if MB are selling it, they are also guaranteeing it. MB do not supply a service book; it is all electronic and a copy can sometimes be negotiated.

Hi Jas - so I have my service history record infront of me, this came after having a 23k service last month. My car is a 2011 C63 Coupe:
First service at 12k miles.
Second service at 19k miles.
Latest service at 23k miles.
So this would back up your theory that the car should have had 2 services.
Hope this helps mate.

That's my worry for all i know the car was 14mths and 5,000 miles overdue, mercedes have no way of knowing either as it never had any work done by a main dealer.

Apparently the car is a 1 private owner from new so maybe i could ask for the previous owners details to confirm what has gone on. Can't understand why someone would buy one of these cars new and not service it.

MB at Wakefield have been brilliant with me. I questioned whether or not the car had LSD as per some misgivings on this forum. Before any work was started I had the full "Datacard" for my vehicle in front of me, plus the full service history.
If they wont give you this info on the car or seem vague on its history, walk away, and spend your hard earnt cash at another Merc dealer, there are lots of other C63s out there mate!

It's not that they won't show me the info mate the problem is there is no info to show prior to the dealer service 2wks ago.

Mine is a one owner too. Like you said, why would anyone spend 50k+ on a car and not have it serviced, doesnt make sense.
Go look at some more?

Yeah i know it's such a shame really liked this car, right wheel colour for me personally, liked the two tone leather, sorted the price and finance rate out and this happens. Don't think i could live with a car with no history makes me think it hasn't been looked after properly. I suppose i was clutching at straws hoping people on here also used independents so the mercedes digital service report didn't really mean that much. I imagine when i came to sell i would have problems with this...

I would call the original owner and ask him directly , if the garage drag their heels then that would be the time to walk.

As already mentioned , why have an expensive car like that that and invalidate the warranty by not getting it a service when it is a year old :dk:.

I just asked the service dept. for a copy of the records the last time mine was serviced and there were no issues.

Kenny

The warranty isn't invalidated nececessarily, but if it was PCP the owner would have been "fined" for not having a MB stamp.
I think MB Approved cars should really have full history but I not the website doens't seem to mention this.

Personally I would ask for free service plan or £2000 off or walk away.

Plenty more fish in the sea.

Then I would think about how long I was keeping it.
When you come to sell it will it matter one service was "late" and anyway you go it with a MB used warranty.
Cars up to 5 years old I think it matters, beyond that, condition/mileage are more of a deal breaker, in my experience anyway.

I would dismiss that one and look for another. There are plenty out there.

If you are concerned enough to post on a forum about it, then you're concerned enough for it to stay at the back of your mind for as long as you own the car - and that's not a good place to be with a complex and expensive car.

I would look at keeping the car for 3yrs tony.
Yes it would always be in the back of my mind. With the lack of a service book to see the physical stamp which is new to me was the reason i posted the topic just to see how actual owners of these cars went about with service records especially if using independents. The bit which sticks the most is why an owner of such a car from new wouldn't take it back to the dealer for its first service.

The sales manager is ringing me back today to see what my thoughts are, looks like he is going to be disappointed as am i.

Just tell him what you want - he will find one I am sure.

I was under the impression that indy specialist's updated the service record after any work? is this not the case?

Tony.

Lets just hope there's not a computer cliché and all this virtual service history is lost.
