That bloke talks nothing but $hit, an absolute pratt
Agreed, but:
....while John Cadogen himself is not everyone's cup of tea, he does have an engineering degree and the technical information he provides is usually both reliable and accurate...

Agree with AJ totally. Just listening to the man makes you think what a k**b.

He may have a degree but he has zero experience in building cars and knowing what service requiments are. How long have MB been in this game.

He is also very anti MB, so there is another reason not to like him :)

Not quite.

Almost all his anti-MB rants were in fact about poor customer service in Australia, not so much about the cars themselves.

Just watched it again. What a whittling loon.

I find servicing a hastle. Time away from life I won’t get back. When I was doing 10k a year pre pandemic I was servicing annually. Now doing <2.5k per annum. Just can’t see the point. Service every 1.5-2y will be just fine.

Mine will have done just over 1k miles since last service (B) plus additional items and it Will be going in for an (A) service in August (£273) 1/2 of the cost of road tax so why penny pinch 😀
Imo a c63 is as good as the service history missing service's = cheaper car
Most on here give advice about the history being complete and then some say strech it out as mentioned before, me personally wouldn't buy a c63 without FSH

I'd go further and say I wouldn't buy any AMG without a full and complete service history. Main dealer or indy wouldn't matter.
If the servicing has been skimped, what else has?

Personally, for such a car if it’s serviced annually in accordance with its schedule, I’ll be wondering what else was scrimped on. I do about 2000 miles pa in mine and I service it annually. I was doing about 1000 miles in my TVR and still serviced it annually

I have mine serviced every 2 years (or less) as I barely do 3-5k in them.
I use the dealer or specialists for the basic service & stamp and any additional works like plugs and pollen I do myself using Gen parts. I keep all the paperwork and photos printed out and filed in the SH. Call me a Nerd. Lol

i don’t see any harm in oil being left 2 years if the mileage is say 5k over that period. Modern oils and engines aren’t like 1950-60s where they would break down.

I check my tyres weekly, brakes often looked at often and every noise or squeak I resolve. I’m about OCD but like cars to be reliable and kept in good shape.

But annual servicing isn’t something I adhere too. It’s either on mileage 5k or 2 years. Don’t hate me for it :(

That's entirely up to you but when you come to sell it
You won't get good money for it, as me and I don't think im alone would walk away with missing history doesn't matter the mileage 🤔

Hi , As an example a friend of mine had a brand new Porsche Boxer , required new engine , duly fitted but paper work not correctly stamped up.

Came to part ex the car and the same Porsche dealer gave him a terrible part ex price , reason , part service history.

Premium cars with incorrect service history are generally caned at trade in time.

You will never get a good price part ex with a dealer anyway.
I just help sell a friends low mileage VW campervan on EBay, 2 years old against a £50,000 Motorhome. Dealer offered him £33,000 in part ex, sold it within a week through EBay for £38,000 cash.

I didn’t see it like that to be honest. I appreciate your view point.
It all started via lockdown when I couldn’t get it done and it was around 9 behind when it finally went into Mercedes. When I checked the mileage, I realised it had only
Done 4k from the last major service.

I do have a couple older w126 which again, haven’t done more than warm up every few months. Not moved more than a few metres. Joys of storing old cars. I wonder why I bother at Times

Okay. Bought my 2011 C63 Saloon in August 2020. It had just passed its MOT and had an A Service, in the July, only a couple of weeks before.

Later on that August I had to replace the PCV valve and in March this year I had to get a new Inlet Manifold Gaskets & Bolts.

Took it in yesterday to a good Mercedes specialist for its MOT and a B Service. Even though I’ve only driven 1600 miles in the 11 to 12 months I bought it, I still want to keep the car regularly serviced.

Anyway, failed the MOT. Need to replace one tyre, but the other tyres are gonna go soon and would be on the advisory. So decided to replace them all.

Brake pads are worn and need replacing. I gave the go ahead to replace them.

Also a third problem that I wasn’t sure I understood correctly. Gearbox problem. “Sitting on the sump”. Not entirely sure about that. But gave the go ahead to get that fixed too.

All in all, B Service + MOT + repairs = £2700.

☹️

Ouch ,would like to no more about the gearbox issue, that seems pretty high for the work you've had done 🤫 i hope its all sorted now

Being worked on now. Hopefully can collect it tomorrow, if not then the day after. I’ll get more details of the gearbox issue.

Since the last service in June 2020 I had only covered just over 1,500 miles wondered whether I should or shouldn't have the annual service done. The unanimous decision in my head was yes you should. I had it B1 serviced at my local Indy at a cost of £495 including brake fluid change. When I sat down and worked out what the car has cost me per mile which included depreciation, fuel, insurance, road tax and MOT I reckon that car cost me around £2.95 per mile for that years 'Motoring':D

Sounds like a main dealer price.
