Hi all

Im sure this has been done to death, however I can find out a lot of info for 19" rims, but not a lot on 18"?:dk:

I am currently running P Zero's and I'm not overly impressed. They are OK but not great.

I have been looking into Michelin PSS, which loads of people on 19's are more than happy with, which are available in 245/40/18 and 265/40/18. Has anyone had any experience with these tyres/sizes (on 18's)? std 235/40/18 255/35/18.

Failing that, what do you recommend?

Cheers

I'm running kuhmo ecsta on 18s and they are much better than my previous car which ran continentals albeit on 19s. They were recommended by the merc dealer workshop supervisor...I will replace with the same. running standard sizes.

My current 19" wheels run conti 5's and although they are good, still struggle for traction in 1st and 2nd gear. Gonna give michelin pilot super sports a try...

My opinion is either michelin SS or conti 5's....

Surpries the kumho's felt better than the Conti's. What Conti's were they?

conti 5s on 19in....to be fair the new car has diff lock which makes a massive difference so maybe an unfair comparison.

Ok thanks

The PSS are only available in non std sizes for the 18's.
Front
255/40/18
Rear
265/40/18
275/35/18

Is this likely to cause any issues?

Fronts will be 2.48% or 16mm larger than standard
The rears will be 5.19% or 33mm larger than standard on the 265/40/18
and 2.2% or 14mm on the 275/35/18 but would be too wide and not a safe fit for the wheel anyway.

I assume the speedo runs off the fronts and with 255//40/18's it would read 2mph slower than the actual speed

I am thinking of going with Kumho 245/40/18 on the front and 265/35/18 on the rear which keep the front and rear increase the same and makes only 1mph difference with speedo error. I wont be doing track days and the Kumho are a good priced performance tyre according to family in the trade

Thanks for the detailed info, I just realised I made a typo on the fronts! It should of said 245/40/18 for the PSS

Ok, so I contacted Michelin direct for an official response. See below.

You are correct we do not manufacture the PSS in your current tyre size.

Original tyre size - 235/40 R 18 - 653mm overall diameter - permitted rim is 8 - 9.5"

Tyre size - 245/40 R 18 - 661mm overall diameter - permitted rim is 8 - 9.5" (so okay)

Original tyre size - 255/35 R 18 - 643mm overall diameter - permitted rim is 8.5 - 10"

Tyre size - 275/35 R 18 - 657mm overall diameter - permitted rim is 9 - 11"
Tyre size - 265/40 R 18 - 677mm overall diameter - permitted rim is 9 -10.5 "

You would have to replace you rims to use the above sizes as yours only go to 10".

So on that note, be it safety, I'm going to unfortunately order Continue 5P and hope for the best.
