Hi guys,

Did a DIY mod on my c63 W204. I smoked out my tail lights. Does anybody know if this allowed or should I go for a lighter smoke?

Are there any police on the forum that can advise ?
I have attached picture the lights are still visible

It’s a tint wrap. This how it’s looks with the lights off.

Your one look really nice. Did you have it sprayed?

If you don't have visible rear reflectors, the car will not pass an MoT. Both cars are not roadworthy.

You are asking to be pulled with those lights i played with the idea of tinted no plates, i got 500 meters until I found the answer

Yes, as stated you must show reflectors as is (no tint on those) and also, the lights themselves must be clearly visible through the tint like in the first picture.

When I last tinted tail lights in the mid 90s, they used to give you a pair of reflectors to stick on with the tint spray.

My first car below (grey) did have these two reflectors at one stage but I took them off but the car never went through MOT under my ownership after the tints were done but it should have failed.

I also had a white Escort like the grey one below with completely-blacked out rear lights - but that also should have failed. Although I did get stopped by the rozzers and they were happy with the tints in terms of how much of the lights shone through (and they predicted very-little but were surprised there was quite a lot) and lack of reflectors showing.

My grey Escort below, however, should and did pass and MOT as I did not tint the reflectors in the centre of the units (or brake and fog lights but these can be tinted).

I might have to go couple of times lighter

I had tinted front and rear lights never got pulled however tinted plate got pulled within 7 days of having it done copper was cool ish tho as he said if you can peel of the plate tint on the side of the road you are free to go if not a fine is coming your way

Funny thing my front windows where defo not legal but got away with that they never said anything

Interesting thread. Where do factory tinted rear lights, such as the Peugeot 508 and Lamborghini Urus and Porsche Taycan and 911 fit in with these regulations?
