Hello,
I appreciate the title may read like a stupid question, but please bear with me and read on! With the current lockdown, I've purchased a CTEK MXS 5.0 trickle charger for my W205 C63 as the battery was starting to throw some critical warnings.
Using the CTEK, I'm currently using the provided crocodile clips on the provided positive connection and the negative anchor point. It works great and took around two days to fully charge the battery. During my pre-purchase research, I watched a YouTube video of a W205 (not a C63 though) and they showed a car battery in the bonnet area, beneath some plastic trim and what I presume to be a cabin air filter. They then connected a CTEK "comfort" connection directly to the battery, providing them with a traffic light system to see the battery charge level.
Curiosity got the better of me, so I had a look there myself, only to find I don't actually have a battery there, but an empty space instead.
I'm guessing the video I watched was for a W205 diesel, rather than petrol, or the C63/C63S are different somehow? I have the CTEK comfort connector too (it was ~£10 from Amazon), but given the expected battery doesn't exist where I thought it would, and that the crocodile clips are just as quick-n-easy to use I'll stop being lazy and give the installation a miss for now.
Have any other W205 C63 owners bothered installing the CTEK comfort connector? Being electrical, and with cars being so technology-driven these days, I guess disconnecting the power by accident can have some "interesting" side effects? As stated above, for now, I'm staying away from it - "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" - but I'm still intrigued to know more. Any sensible thoughts are welcome!
Thanks, Ben
