It costs about £25 to put it up for auction on eBay with a silly reserve - say, £65k - and see what it bids to. That will tell the seller what a realistic price is. He won't do that, though, will he, because he knows perfectly well he'll be disappointed...
I just did exactly that with my SL500, which I wanted gone. Reserve of £4995; it bid to £3976. I had it on Gumtree for £4995, then £4500, then £4250, then £3995; the calls started flooding in only after the last price reduction. I conclude that the eBay auction was a pretty good indication of the realistic price.
