Cables for Media interface

Just bought a new E class 220 cdi which came with media interface built in. very disappointed to find this does not include the cables necessary to use it. Who wants to pay extra for the laces for a very expensive pair of shoes ?

Dealer completely unhelpful.

Interface looks to have standard USB port. Not interested in using i-pod since i don't have one but would like to know:
(a) whether interface USB port can be connected using standard cheap USB cable instead of MB £50+ version
(b) whether there is a 3.5mm socket for output from non-ipod MP3 player

(c) if I have to buy MB cable set, where can these be found in UK at a reasonable price (looked on e-bay but nothing there)

The connector in the glovebox is unique to Mercedes and you can only use it with a Mercedes cable.

The cableset comes with 3 cables: -
a) iPod (but it wont charge latest iPods)
b) 3.5mm aux input that is the 4 way type that supports Audio-L, Audio-R and Video
c) USB connector

The USB will only deal with the large version of FAT (which I think is called FAT32 and is 32GB) partitions on a memory stick, having read the manual I beleive you can put 4 of those FAT32 partitions on the stick.

The individual cables all have part numbers on them, so maybee can be bought seperately. The USB cable for the W204/W211 is A204 827 03 04. The 3.5MM AV cable is A204 827 02 04

Have we worked out how the video input works yet?

No more apart from it is physically connected - I didnt have an iPod video to try when Alfie & I did the last W204 media interface retrofit

I.e it looks like it should hapilly work -

BTW, it may be worth adding that the reason cables are not included is that there is another alternative cable that connects the MI port to the iPhone cradle. If you do that then you don't need the cable pack.

We will test this on the next install with an episode of 'Life on Mars' that I have on my iphone. Will report back then.

Be curious to know how you get on. I have an iPod with some top gear episodes on it, but I can get them to show on the screen. Everything else is brilliant however with the media interface. Would also advise you get the cradle for the iPod from your dealer - I think it's £12, but it stops the iPod from knocking about, and thus potentially damaging one of your cables...(connector pops out and snarls etc)
