What does that means?

It looks like i3 is higher speed than i5 and i7.

I don't want to buy a laptop with i3 processor and then it feels like a Celeron.

Laptops with i5 and i7 are more expensive, I just have to go by the logic the more expensive it is, the higher the processor speed.

Is Intel trying to confuse us?

What do you want to do with the laptop?

Unless it is playing games or editing video any new laptop will do, if it is playing games then any new laptop with a decent gfx card will do, etc etc.

Basically in the i* lineup yes the i3 is the lower end of the range. But it is a higher performance processor than a celeron and i3 is dual core. They run at lower clock speeds than i5 / i7 and dont have Turbo Boost. Whether you need something more powerfull depends on what you will be using it for.

My current Inspiron 1520 Duo Core 2 is two years old, I would like a new laptop for general use. There is an attractive deal at PC World at the moment saying it got an i3 core processor for £499. However if I specify an i5 or i7 processor, it considerable more expensive.

What I don't want to purchase it and find that it struggling like a Celeron for several years.
