Just looking at these fine cars and I wanted to know what one of the buttons is.

Between the temperature dials is the recirculation button. What is the button above that and next to the hazard button? Looks from pictures as though it has a square shape symbol on the top (which I would have taken for the rear wash wipe were it not a saloon) and a snowflake on the bottom of the rocker. Is this a/c? Is this how I tell if it has a/c?

If not what are the buttons for a/c? None of the ones I have looked at online seem to behigh res enuf for me to see (although that also may be advancing years and poor eyesight.....). Thank you.

Not sure what the button you are referring to as I dont have it on mine.

Easiest way to tell is to pop the bonnet and look for the condensor. It looks just like a thin radiator in front of the main radiator.

From the inside if you have an EC or Econ/economy button then it has A/C as this is the button you push to have air circulated without using A/C

Also bear in mind that I think most if not all of these would have been made using R12 gas not the newer R144a, so if its not working then you will need to convert it unless it has already been done. So dont fall for the "just needs a re gas" line.

This would be the air con button if it has a snowflake sign and is on a manual system. The w126 didn't have any buttons marked EC on the manual system (this only appeared on cars after w126 production ended)
The square symbol denotes a demist setting for the a/c. Although to be honest, having had a car with the manual ac, I wasn't sure there was any difference between this and pressing the snowflake button - both provided icy cold air - it may be this setting provided more dehumidified air.
