cam chain slipper

Just being thick here, having my cam chain replaced and the mechanic is talking about him replacing the slippers. Am I right to think these are the tensioners only he is insisting this is a better job. Car in question clc 180 k. Thanks in advance far any advice. Regards

Not sure but is of thought he means guides.
 
In the olden days..... A slipper was usually a nylon pad either shaped as a support or the bearing face of the tensioner, there's absolutely no point in having a new chain without replacing the ancillaries.

All done nowchain,tensioners etc runs beautifully, just have to see if there's any rattle from cold in the morning, some say the initial rattle is just a quirk of this engine. Will keep you posted.
