As a keen biker who loves the sound of internal combustion, could an exhaust upgrade improve the sound of a modern diesel? The sound of the E350 CDI Cab (A207) is very anaemic, too quiet at tickover and under acceleration. I understand it's supposed to be refined, but could an exhaust change get anywhere to making it sound like a proper sporty engine, without sounding like just a louder diesel?

I've searched long and low on youtube and have never found a great sounding diesel - so maybe exhaust isn't the problem but the nature of diesel engines? Would be delighted to be proven wrong. And before anyone asks why I got the diesel and not the petrol - purely because of fuel economy as I'll do over 25k miles a year in the car.

The motoring press had a story a couple of weeks ago about a diesel that had the exhaust tuned to sound more like a petrol, I think it was a Ford but not sure.

Oh My God ...
I'll never look at my E300TD in quite the same light again.
