Hi,

I own a 1996 W124 Estate with the 111 engine. I noticed the Haynes manual covers up to 1993 and I take it those cars have a 8 valve engine. Can anyone recomend a manual, which covers the usual service stuff but infomes you how to strip the interior and doors down.

At the mo I'm looking like having to buy the Haynes manual to cover the shell and interior and another manual to cover the engine an box. Which isn't the favoured choice at nearly £50.

I'm not that familier with Mercedes and can't go in with out the safety net of a manual like I can with Mk1 or 2 Golf.

Cheers,
Karl

Yours must be a late registration then as I'm pretty sure production ended in 1995 ( apart form a few built in India , but not estates I'm pretty sure ) .

However , you are quite correct that late E200 and E220 models did have the 16 valve M111 engine and that this is not covered in the Haynes manual .

I'm not sure which other vehicles Haynes cover , but I think there may be a manual for the W202 C Class which had basically the same engines , but they may differ in some details .

There may be 'unofficial' copies of MB workshop manuals available on CD via eBay and other outlets , which may be of help .

Sorry I can't be of more help .

The estates and coupes continued production in Germany till later 1996-- estates being the last to be phased out irrc. They would have still been produced at the same time as the new W210 saloons for an overlap period. The unofficial copies of the workshop manuals on 2 CD's are mainly from the USA and don't cover any 4 cylinder engines unfortunately. The closest all models manual is this one from Brooklands Mercedes W124 Owners Workshop Manual 1985-1995: 200, 200E, E200, E220, 220E, 230E, 260E, E280, 280E, E300, 300E, 300E-24, E320, 320E: Amazon.co.uk: R. M. Clarke: Books
but its not totally comprehensive either. Its actually a straight translation of a German Manual by another publisher

Cheers for the info. My car was ordered in April 96 at Mecedes Benz Liverpool and registerd 1st of May 1996. It's an export model and spent over half it's life in Spain being ship there and back every year.

Hiya Cheers for the reply, I was thinking was getting that manual along with the Haynes. Looks like I'll have to bite the bullet and get two, I've got a few little jobs to do on it for the winter and don't fancy going in without a safety net. Next summer one wings coming off for paint and I need to replace one due to a little knock wich started to rot. Bodged repair but I got some cash back from the insurance company and I'll do it right myself just meens car's off the road unitl the wings come back from the coating place down south before I paint them.
