Hi I have a 2002 E220 Cdi { W210 Model }
Went to start it this morning - wouldnt start , friend noticed deisel coming from front of engine near top
Is there a pump there as upon inspection its leaking deisel from what appears to be a gasket on top of pump ?
Tried to jump start car but non starter - would this cause this problem , also how big of a job to repair ?
Rob

See [THREAD=101043]this recent thread[/THREAD] for some related info, though that leak sounds somewhat less catastrophic than yours.

You said you'd tried to jump start it – was it not even turning over when you tried to start it? If it was turning over then your battery is fine and a jump start was never going to help.

If a lot of fuel is leaking out then air could be getting in, too, which would make starting very difficult. If that's the case then you need to find and fix the leak, which may need new O-rings and/or fuel lines, and then bleed all the air out of the fuel system.

Thanks

Thanks , When I tried to start it - it was just turning over - wouldnt start , then friend tried to jump start it - turning over but still non starter - noticed the fuel leak , took of top cover an saw it was leaking from what appears to be the top of a pump ?
Is this a major issue - expensive repair
Rob

Not necessarily major or expensive – if you're not intending to do the work yourself then you can expect to pay for 1-2 hours of labour to trace the leak and replace any damaged seals and hoses. If the problem lies inside a fuel pump then that would have to be removed and repaired (or even replaced), which would obviously increase the cost.

Thanks , may I ask if you know how it comes apart - can only see 2 star screws on the top of it ?
Any advise where I may obtain gaskets , seals etc ?
Thanks
Rob

this model suffers with the plastic fuel pipes leaking, had to change a set at work yesterday.would fire then run for 2 secs then take ages to start, this is due to the fuel draining back to the tank due to air getting into the pipes .
hope this helps.

You can get generic bits from any auto factor, but if you buy parts from M-B you can have a bit more confidence that they'll "just fit".

As for disassembly – just keep undoing screws until it comes apart. And refitting is the reverse of removal... ;)

Many Thanks for all the help
Out of interest does anyone know I can get a seal kit from , has it got to be main dealer parts ?

Hi Rob

Had similar problems with mine.
If you look at my posts you will see my own trail of misery.

I believe that my car must have been leaking fuel for a while but it was the injectors that stopped the car starting.

I got mine going with some easi start. this enabled me to get it to a garage to get it fixed.

A star test showed that two injectors were at fault so recon injectors from MB fixed that problem.

During the cold weather I have been using my 4x4 so I had not used the merc while it was freezing.
This made the leaks show up when I ran the engine.
When the engine was warm the leaks went away.

I hope your bills are less than mine.

220 CDI Fuel leak

Hi all,
I'm new on here and also new to MB. Just purchased an 02 CDI 220 and two days later discovered puddles of fuel on the driveway. Pulled off the top engine plastics and found a lot of moisture (fuel) around the plastic tubes above the auxiliary belt.
Off to the local MB dealers and purchased the tube set £51.70, dashed home to change underpants. Changing the tubes can wait until tomorrow the temp at the moment is minus 6C. I shall post how I get on with the fitment.
Cheers all............Macy.

Hi Macey

Sorry to hear you are having trouble.

When you do the job any chance you can take some pictures?

might give me a clue when I get chance to do mine.

All the best

Steve

Hi Steve,
I fitted the fuel lines early this morning, had I known that you wanted pics I would have taken some sorry. Anyway the jobs a breeze, a bit fiddly granted especially with freezing fingers, still minus 5C here this morning.
The job took me one hour fifteen mins, then the road test and re=check for any leaks before putting the engine covers (plastics) back on. I have to say that the two MB supplied tubes are pre moulded to every contour that they have to follow, so while expensive they sure make the job easier.
Good luck with yours...............Cheers Macy:D
