What are the advantages of having your car serviced by a main dealer? I know that the corrosion warranty will remain intact but what other advantages are there? When it comes to selling it you never get back the £'000s the servicing has cost from a main dealer so is it worth the outlay?

Because of the discount scheme they have, main dealer servicing doesn't cost me significantly (any?) more than going to an independent.

They have the most up to date equipment and tools for the newer types of Mercedes.

If the car is in warranty then that will remain intact for the time of the warranty, however bearing in mind that some indy garages used to be MB technicians, if your car is no longer in its warranty period, you might want to save some money and get your service and repairs done for a fraction of the price of the stealer.

Dealer the best option

With the discount for *ahem* more venerable vehicles that Bill alludes to it is only a tenner more expensive for a big 'b' service for me to use the MB dealer at Watford than the last indy I got a quote from. And they wash the car

Mercs of your age do rust unfortunately, so its well worth keeping up the service history with a main dealer until its 8 years old. After then, they will stop carrying out repairs so you may as well use an independant once it gets over 8 years old.

My late 2000 reg C320 is going in in a couple of weeks for wheel arch and bonnet rust repairs. Might be worth giving yours a thorough check over too, especially wheel arches, door seams, boot and bonnet. If you are feeling really brave, put it on a ramp and look underneath. It's well worth treating the underside with waxoyl.
