Mercedes-Benz CLK-Class (C209)
Hey everyone! My Mercedes-Benz CLK-Class (C209) recently picked up a chip in the windscreen, and I’m exploring repair options. I got a quote from mycarglass.co.uk, but they mentioned they can’t repair chips larger than a 50p coin. Is this standard with other repair companies, or has anyone had luck with bigger chips?

Also, has anyone used insurance to cover repairs like this? Any insights would be great—thanks!

When a chip on my screen was repaired via my insurance, when talking to the repair man, he said anything larger than one inch/25mm
could not be repaired (I guess he meant it was not safe as per whatever regulations there are). Than inc crack/s over this length. I also vaguely recall him say chips near the edge of the screen could not be repaired

I got my chip done Foc as its inc in my top tier ins with my ins co. A full screen replacement is 75 quid

I'd like to see a pic of a chip bigger than a 50p!!!!... how is that even possible without cracking the screen.

Insurance usually picks up windscreen replace or repair.

Bigger than 50p? We call that a large bullet hole round here ….

and always a full replace because it’s structural weakness that’ll always get worse if impacted at speed

I had a chip nearly as big as a 50p repaired as I could not wait for a screen replacement at the time, the guy repairing it said I might notice it as it was just to the left of the drivers viewpoint, and he was right as I looked slightly to the left looking at oncoming traffic I could see it it,so I had the screen replaced two weeks after the repair

Ouch... nasty.
I've never yet seen a chip repaired to the level I'd be happy with... they are always visible. And I'd say that lookd just about unrepairable as most of the damage looks to be inside.

Didn't even consider it tbh. £75 through the insurance for Autoglass to fit a new Pilkington screen including all the fiddling about with the various sensors.
I was impressed at the strength of a modern windscreen; in the dashcam footage the object that caused the damage looked like an asteroid heading towards the car.
