Can I ask a simple girlie question about the LIM light?

1999 SLK Kompressor and a Honda CRV (the latter gone but not forgotten)
A few days ago, I was making a sharp left at a relatively low speed on to the A59 and two lights on the dash blinked briefly as I made the turn. One had 'LIM' on it and I think the other had the hazard sign. Been thinking about this a lot. I've looked in my downloaded handbook but don't understand, frankly.

Those two lights glow gently when the engine is running and flashed on a turn on a slightly damp road. Okay or a trip to the mechanic? What do you think?

(I am a lady in late middle age if you haven't determined that yet, with a 1999 SLK as in the picture with absolutely no mechanical knowledge who rather likes her unusually coloured summer car.)

Kind regards,

Lisa

From what you describe:

The yellow triangle is the traction control / stability control warning light, as you turned onto the damp road a wheel or wheels lost grip and the traction control reacted as it should do to prevent wheel spin.

Are your tyres all in good condition, plenty of tread and correctly inflated?

The LIIM is the speed limiter that you activate by pressing the end of the cruise control stalk to set a maximum speed, possibly you caught this stalk momentarily?

Perfectly ok but I would check tyre pressures and tread to be on the safe side. The triangular light flashing is to let you know that a wheel is at the point of losing traction and the electronics have detected this and cut in to prevent this (by braking the offending wheel) On your car this is a very bright bulb and there is probably some bleed into the 'lim' lamp. The 'lim' lamp is to let you know that the speed limiter is engaged - press the cruise control switch in to activate and a little amber light comes on in the switch. Raise the cc switch and you set the speed limiter switch and the lim lamp will illuminate.

You can test for bleedthrough by activating the esp button. This will illuminate the amber triangle.
Bright isn't it!!

The ESP lights come on briefly when the ESP ( electronic stability control) or the ABS is activated. If you were making a sharp turn, it means that the offside wheels were turning at a different speed to the nearside wheels, or there was a momentary activation of the Anti lock brakes due to the wheel locking up during the turn.

If they have gone out then there is unlikely to be a fault. When you spin your wheels, the traction control lights flash to warn you, that's all.

Gentlemen! (An assumption I know). Thank you so much! I do know one tyre is close to the limit but I have been trying to source new wheels (that I can afford) before replacing it. I will certainly get the tyre pressures checked and make a definite decision on tyres this weekend. The wheels I want are beyond me at present for a little second fun car.

What a relief!

Regards, Lisa

Don't be afraid of getting wheels that may look a little sorry for themselves as long as no cracks or welds etc the chaps at Rhino alloys a little down the road from you often have a deal on to do complete refurbs.

Just a bit of info for you Lisa. I had a set of 16" rims for my 968 fully professionally refurbished last year - paint and lacquer finish - cost £240. I've just bought a set of 17" AMG rims for my S204, I'm going to have them professionally fully refurbished but powder coated this time - local firm's website states cost per rim as £55+VAT - so cost for 4 is £264. Looking on the alloywheelsdirect website, the new cost of the AMG rims I'm going to have refurbed is £1594, so cost of buying second hand and having fully refurbished is VERY attractive!!

They shouldn't glow unless the speedo illumination is leaking through to them somehow.
