Can I lease this car?

Ollie, I know its nice but resist the temptation. Wait a while till you can afford to buy one outright. There is nothing worse than a monthly bill that adds to your expenditure.
If you want a V8 5ltr I may be able to help you there.

I agree with the principle that having an expensive car parked outside won't necessarily create positive thoughts in the minds of your customers.

The farm next door to one of my parent's places in Devon came up for sale not too long ago. Over a hundred acres, a very big and grand house, several barns etc. Well over a £million. The guy who bought it used to visit it and meet the estate agents to look round in an old Saab 9-5. Nice car but pretty cheap and not flashy.

Once the deal was done and the purchase was completed, he came down in his regular car, an Aston Martin DB9. ;)

Moral of this story is, people will notice what you drive and act accordingly!

Not quite sure on this one,

Cars nice although the second one why anyone puts a £50 irish plate on it? ooh and the spec says its a 4.2L

Not sure what wrong with having that sat outside your works? badge it up as a C200cdi if it make people think your not that 'flash'??

At the end of the day many new ordinary cars are way more than 30K and no one would think twice. Freelander for example,

If you want it and can afford it heck buy it, we are not here that long so enjoy what you can when you can.

:)

And apparently it's silver, with burr walnut AND birdseye mapple wood trim!

I must admit...using reverse physcology - that whenever I have someone around to give me a quote I park My merc around the corner and just leave my wife's 5yr old CR-V in the drive..... I have found with a nice car in the drive quotes are higher.... :(

Funny you should say that...

...long off-topic post coming!!

Last year we decided to replace the fascias and gutters and within minutes a very nice bloke knocked at the door asking if we'd considered the very same. I really don't like sales people in the house and have always avoided like the plague. Naively though I though, what the heck, maybe it's fate, and he said somebody would come out and give us a price.

A seriously - and I mean seriously - rough woman arrived at 21.00 in the evening - two hours late, and I literally had to turf her out after she'd stretched it out far too long. Reluctant though, as she looked 'arder than me!!

Anyway the quote she gave was seven times more expensive than our window cleaner did - who subsequently did the work. Absolutely top-notch job too. SEVEN TIMES more!!??

After I stopped laughing, and got back up off the floor, I began the turfing process, at which point she dropped the quote by 50% if we'd have a advertising board outside the house.

I can only conclude she looked at the cars, the house and thought she'd try her luck, thinking we were a soft touch.

PS I noticed her car and it was a very rough red H-reg E34 BMW 520i - and at the time it stood out as being something different to what I might have expected.

Anyway, back to topic...

It makes no difference to me when I do a service call, its a fixed £20 call out,for up to 10 miles, If I cant fix it or not economical to do then no charge, and I drive away in my SL :) My average repair cost is £40 if brought in or £60 if I collect. 80% are fixed in 10 mins then you have the piggy ones where you spend hours, all for the same price

C32.....mmmmm

Saloon?

Saloon - see below for pic!! ;)

I'm having a tough time deciding to sell, as there's nothing I can really think of it that can step into the void, short of a C63 or RS4 - or mabe 456 :D - which is obviously different league in terms of running costs.

If I decide to sell, I'd be happy to let you know.

Cracking idea. I've got 3 companies coming round to do fencing/paving quotes in the next couple of days ... I'll make sure only our ratty old A4 estate is on the drive :D

Malcolm - no slight was intended - I was just talking from experience - I am sure that some of the people the quotes would have been the same - but why take the chance?

That s quite OK and thank you, I am aware of these problems and the way some cowboy outfits work, I fully agree by keeping expensive things out of sight.

Living where I do we are very much behind the times and sheltered from the real world. The old codes of practice are still used here, and we have no crime here at all

you may have to scroll up as there are only a couple cars on page 3..
Found one (page 2), but not the other. Page 3 works fine now though, and sure enough SMART #2 is there.

I made a decision when I started my business that I wouldn't buy an unnecessary cars (read toys) until I could just go and write a cheque for it in full.

I have three company vehicles, two employees have new Saab 9-3 (one saloon - one wagon) and they are an absolute bargain, give the right impression and don't kill the bank balance. I lease both of these, it works for me as I have a high value stock business so my money is better tied up elsewhere then in vehicles.

I drive a Vito 115cdi auto daily to potter around in, I don't need a flash car, but I'm restoring my 560sec to a very similar look to KLP92 on here, but that stay wrapped up most of the time and used once or twice a week.

I'm in a position where I could lease a £100,000 car, if you search for the right deal, it's astonishing how reasonable you can get one for (especially a new Aston Martin Vantage*)...but I'd prefer to buy another container of granite with the deposit and reinvest in the business.

Sooner or later I'll be in a position where there's excess money, at that point I'll worry about how to spend it, until then I'll just potter around in something half sensible.

*Note, I wouldn't actually go for a new AM if I were in the position to. I've always wanted a 560 SEC AMG (for 20 years since I saw one as a teenager!) there's only one car I'd sell it for - a 1989 Aston Martin Vantage X-Pack - preferably one of the 15 automatic ones that were made....I'll worry about that when I get there I guess.

Anyway, like so many people in this thread have suggested, don't try to run before you can walk, and like the others, I'd like to see a classy restoration outside the garage, not a modern one full of electrickery:-)

Interesting points have been made here.

My money will be better spent on investing in the business. I might buy another Smart instead and just use that or as IBW has suggested in the past a old 190 or 124. A 190 or 124 can be lent out to customers too.

Thanks all for the advice.

When I started out all I had was a 6yr old Escort van. It took me 10yrs before I could afford my first new car a W202 C240 sport.

Now I drive around in a £45k ML and I think I've deserved it. Very rarely do I get silly comments about making too much money and most people look at it that I must be doing something right in order to drive around in a nice car.

What you have to remember is that the business has to come first and if buying an expensive car may cause a bit of a strain on the bank balance just wait. If you work hard enough the money will come and you will then appreciatte getting something nice just that little bit more.

BTW I now work harder than I ever have but that is the downside of having an expanding business and taking pride in what you do.

You can always lend the Smart out to customers too -- if you don't like them that is......{only joking}....:bannana:

Here is a nice advertisement for your buisiness when fully restored. Says to me HERE IS A MAN WHO LOVES MERCEDES and knows how to look after them.

At a guess and without seeing that car, I would suggets it might cost an absolute fortune to restore, perhaps not in money, but I dread to think of the hours involved.

When I suggested a classic vehicle then I'm sure ollie will be able to source a bargain vehicle.
