Cheers Nick, I know the first owners name was a Mr. Albert Bromley my reg is A18ROM, Afters the original owners untimely death... It was then sold to another guy, He then sold it on due to impending litigation after his company went bust (About this time service history went missing). It was sold to the chap who I bought it from and it has 118K on the clock. The first 2 gents who had the car were marticulous about getting it serviced at main dealers. I know this to be true because I have a friend who knows the first two owners and knew the car well...
Sorry but I doubt that you will get anywhere with finding records going back up to 14 years. Just about every MB dealer has been through some sort of change of ownership and all with have had new IT systems - and afraid the last thing on their minds has been keeping records for the benefit of future owners of old cars. This was my experience a few years ago on a car that was only 6 years old so must be worse now.
You can console yourself with the fact that it will not alter the value of your C180 by very much anyway.
You are not expected to provide proof of ownership as the information regarding servicing is in the public domain and vital if you are checking a car's history prior to purchase!

MB UK wanted copies of the V5 and my driving licence before they would tell me anything about the car's history.
Then, all they told me were mileages and dealership names. I had to go to the respective dealers and get them to stamp the book. To get copy invoices I had to supply the same docs I supplied to MB UK plus the bill of sale showing me as the car's purchaser to each of the dealerships.
The reason for this is that because all servicing and repairs were done for a previous owner they are 'Data Protected' to that person.
