Can you actually hit your cars 0-60 in real life?

I've never heard that one before; what's your source?

AMG may have found a way to do the opposite; when I took my first, unmodified, E55K to MSL for a dyno run, with 125K miles up, it was making more power than stock...

Hi,
I used to work for a large manufacturer of diagnostic tools - the ones used by Mercedes, Renault, Peugeot, Fiat, Mitsubishi, Triumph motorcycles etc. - so worked closely with both the vehicle manufacturers and their fuel injection suppliers.
The software in modern ECUs is amazingly complex and I really had to chuckle when the VW "emissions defeat" story broke - if only people knew what the ECUs are actually capable of!
Cheers

I did a few runs in my stage 4.25 GT-R and was getting nowhere near the mid 2's to 60 ive seen publisbed .

However , in my C63, 3 up , sightly damp conditions and without launching, I managed 0-50mph in 3.8 , which I thought was decent !

Once its dry im going to get some readings from my E63, I just know they will be amazing , although with the E63 its all about acceleration over 60 !

As mantioned, when you get down into the 4s and 5s, it's all about technique. That, or lack of mechanical symathy.

If you want someone with a lack of mechanical sympathy, you can't beat an Autocar journalist. They NEVER have to pay for any cars they break, so why treat them like an owner would?

Road surface plays a large part in the figures too, especially if it's a bit damp. The best times (especially with 2WD) will be somewhere with loads of rubber already deposited, so go to Santa Pod for a "run what you brung" session.

Put in an order for a new differential beforehand though!

I've managed to beat the Autocar 0-60 time for my ML, which didn't surprise me. Well maintained engines usually put out more power than the brand new, tight engines that the journals have to play with.

What made me chuckle is that people are stupid enough to believe it was just VW when it's more than obvious they're all at it. Obviously it's just kicked off again with Chrysler/Fiat but more will be outed over time.

The consumption and, more worryingly, crash tests are just the same, only designed for good test results rather than any real world gains.

Absolutely right!!

Anything other than perfect conditions is bound to impact times especially when sending masses of torque to the rear wheels.

As said AMG's in RWD guise are useless off the line unless bone dry and even then are tricky. I'd love to see what mine could do now it has 750bhp but it's. It isn't a car I want to blast off the line all the time, it's the shove when rolling that's impressive.

I don't often push it off the line, in fact I'm very steady up to 15mph then press on. Today I had this Focus St that sounded like Darth Vader, twitching behind me & switching from lane to lane in a busy series of roundabouts, quite irritating really. We came to some traffic lights & a 6 series BMW popped into the lane next to me , instantly Darth had to switch lanes to be behind him,,outside lane, dual carriageway. Lights changed & I pushed a bit & so did BMW, Darth was fighting with his gear stick behind him, he looked at me & we both booted it ...the childish glee I felt when Darth was slowly pulling over to the right hand lane when he realised , aint no substitute for cc's lol:bannana:

Don't forget you get better traction off the line with suspension in Comfort, many think the opposite.
