Can you help?

Hi, I have a Sl 350 03, I am having a problem with one of the headlights not coming on when switched on, after a lot of switching on & off stopping & starting the engine & after about 5 mins of this it finally comes on & is no problem for the rest of that days use? ( side lights are ok ) i have renewed the bulb but still have the same problem, a garage told me that it could be the box thing or brain that controls the lighting, this is only a may be & just for the new part was about £400 plus fitting.
Does any one have any advice, or can the part be bought any cheaper?
