Hi

I am looking at buying an SL500 in Toronto Canada on the following VIN , and wondered if anyone could check out the spec & year registered for me please. I've not seen the car yet as it is a recent trade in, should be available later this week.

I am not sure if North American VIN numbers are different to European ones as I cant see the usual reference to the model number.

Its WDBSK75F34F080405

many thanks

That didn't take long Steve, withdrawal symptoms already :D:devil:

Hi Soly, shame I missed you before you left. (big hugs)

Nope, couldnt resist ...

Soly says hi back... I dont know with Ian & Ray both vying for hugs ... I should be charging :)

anyway I did a bit of web searching and came up with this... and North american VINS are different

US cars have an internal VIN that follows the Euro format (in addition to the external VIN, the one in the US format), for this car it would be simply WDB2304751F080405.

well, BIG dissapointment at Mercedes Dealer. i was offered the car on Monday subject to a viewing as soon at it arrived at the showroom ( a trade in) called Thusrday to check - salesman on a days leave, called Fri am - he says car is in but that someone else is also interested. Told him fine, would be there later in the day . I Arrived at the showroom 3pm to be told the car was sold by another salesperson the day before to a buyer who put down a holding deposit before he had seen the car. I was furious as being treated so shoddily and unprofessionally - the salesman agreed we were offered the car first and agreed we should have been given first refusal but as we didnt hand any deposit over it was sold to the other guy. He didnt mention anything to us about needing a deposit ( which I would have done as it was refundable if we didnt like the car upon viewing) . I couldnt bring myself to argue the toss so just got up & left whilst he was in mid apology. I called his manager later when I had cooled off a bit and put in a formal complaint. They offered me another car with less spec and more money and promised to have it available for viewing Today - its now 4.45pm and they havent call to set up the appointment. I am wondering if the "too good to be true " car really existed and was a lure to try to get me into a more expensive model. Dodgy Used car salemen Eh? they get everywhere . Never mind, there are other MB dealers .Just have to keep looking.

Maybe the other salesman was on a "retainer" ;) to keep a look out for a good 2nd hand SL. Or could be he was an old customer of the dealership who has done business with them for years whereas you're the "new kid on the block." There could be lots of reasons. Disappointing for you but probably best to try to remain friends with these guys. New country-- maybe they do things differently? It may not be to your liking but when in Rome sorry Toronto ??? Time to join these guys maybe to get some local "intelligence";)
