207d van
hi,

I have a problem. Have recently bought a 207D panel van, made in 1979. The door locks on both cab doors are a bit crap, the drivers side broke entirely but I cannot find replacements with a key. Have had to just fit one without a key so's she passed the MOT and am using the back doors to enter and exit the vehicle, which is a bit of an **** frankly. Talked to a couple of dealers and the original part is obsolete. Can anyone suggest any options here or other vans that will have a compatible system? I only need the cab doors and the ignition and back doors already work off different keys so they don't need to match. thanx, in advance or your help. Cxx

In what way is the original driver side lock broken?

Would the key turn when put inside the lock barrel but fail to lock/unlock the door?
Or
Would the key fail to turn in the lock barrel?

hey,

thanx for replying. the whole barrel came out when I turn the key one night. It's sheered off entirely at the inside end. Left permently locked but openable from the inside. had to replace the handle just to get it through the MOT but couldn't find a replacement with a key and apparently merc themselves can't help anymore. Its an old van a quite rare these days I understand. But surely there must be other locks that are compatible that may still be around with the corresponding key?

try giving mike in bristol a call. he's on 07881580886

good luck

If you currently have a lock barrel in the driver’s door handle that has no matching key then you could remove the lock barrel from your original broken barrel and put it into the current keyless drivers door handle.

Or

You could swap the passenger door lock over to the drivers door, the passenger door can’t have had much use over the years and may just need a good clean out and lubrication to get it working properly.

A picture of the lock removed from the door would be useful in order to see what’s possible.
