Can't get phone to work.

Hi All,
My recently purchased S211 has a phone cradle in the arm rest - part no. B6 787 5846 (Don't know if this is UHI or MHI or what ever you call it!!)

Anyway, it didn't come with a handset so just got a cheap one of eBay. (Nokia 6230). But when I insert phone in to cradle, I get nothing.

Display just continues to say, "please insert phone."

The handset doesn't even charge whilst sitting in the craddle.

Any ideas on how or where to start sorting this?

(S211 on 54 plate with comand.)

Thanks,
shr.

This cradle doesn't have the bluetooth functionality, does it? I was going to suggest pairing your phone with the cradle...

The only thing I can think of is to unplug the cradle itself from the armrest (use the little release button at top left as you look down on it, and pull the cradle backwards) and attempt to plug it back in again. Make sure you hear and feel a positive click when it engages. Then try again.

Oh - and make sure you have the ignition on and COMAND fully up and running before plugging the phone in.

Good luck!

Not sure it the craddle itself supports bluetooth, but there's an option in Comand to pair phones via bluetooth. I did try this and it did seem to pair with the handset. But not sure what you can actually do with this.
Pressing Tel still says "please insert phone" on the comand screen and on the IC display.

Will try and unplug craddle but not really sure how to.
I can sort of lift the craddle out a little (just about enough to be able to see the back to read the part number) but then can't actually see the connector itself to see how it releases.

Will have another look to see if I can find the realease button you mentioned.

The comand bluetooth facility is only for headsets - nothing to do with pairing directly with actual phones. About as useful as... never mind!

I have to say that if you have been able to lift the cradle (whilst it is still plugged in) sufficiently to read the part numbers underneath, it may be likely that the cradle plug in the armrest is damaged or broken. When mine is in position, you can only lift the rear of the cradle a few mm. It slots in horizontally by placing the front of the cradle over the armrest plug and sliding the cradle forward in the manner I described earlier. The movement should be only horizontal - not vertical!

The release button is the little round button on its own at the front left of the top face of the cradle - just above the large pad which the phone rests on. Press that and slide the cradle horizontally rearwards about 1 cm. Then lift it out.

I see what you mean.
Thanks for that!! Just had a quick look at I realise what you mean.
I don't think I've damaged the connector, as I took the craddle off as you described. Looks ok.
So connected it all back up again, but still no joy.

Interestingly though, I noticed the phone display itself kept popping up with "Enhancement not Supported"

Does this mean the phone could be at fault somehow?

I don't know, I'm afraid. That's the limit of my knowledge on the 6230 cradle unfortunately!

That error message sound a bit ominous, but I don't know if it means that the phone could be faulty or perhaps missing a software update? I'm merely guessing though.

My car had the exact same cradle when I bought it, but I opted to change the cradle to match my phone - vice versa to you - so I have never seen mine in action as it were.

My advice would be to try to find out if someone you know has a 6230 phone which you can try out in your car temporarily.

I still have my old 6230 cradle to hand, but it may not be practical to try it out - depending on where you are?

Sorry I can't be more help.

Sorry I can't be more help.

You've helped immensely.
Thanks to you, I managed to get the craddle out. If you hadn't have posted, I would've ended up with broken bits of craddle in my hand and asking if anyone had a craddle for a 6230 going spare (seems you might have been able to help with that too!! :D )

But good news!!
The phone is working :bannana:
Dug out an old toothbush and gave the contacts on the bottom of the phone a right good clean. Scrubbed away the black grime to reveal some nice and shinny copper.

Inserted phone and worked right away (on comand and IC).

So thanks mate.
I appreciate your time and effort in guiding me. :thumb:
