I will have cause to park my car for a few days near to cars the owners of which I can't guarantee will care how they park as much as I do.

So.... I am thinking of buying a car cover to protect its flanks while parked up.

My question is, are car covers detrimental to a cars finish in terms of micro scratches and the like?

A good quality tailored cover (warning - expensive) is fine on a clean car. I used one on my SL for some time, without any problems. You don't want to put one on a dirty car though, and avoid cheap (non-tailored) covers as they will flap about when the wind blows and cause marks that way.

Several previous threads on covers - try a few searches.

If you parked on the road and covered the car with a protective cover would you need warning lights at night? I was thinking of the regs for a skip, which needs signage, lights and a permit. So if you covered the cars reflectors would the same rules apply?

Just a thought, but it would be a pointless exercise if you were held responsible if someone crashed into you.

imagine how ****** you will be keep taking it off and putting it back on.athough your paintwork will be protected but you could still get dents
